You can put any PCI or PCIE soundcard on it. Up to you now. :)

I have a D2X and it rocks :) you can put a 1x PCI-E sound card in any PCI-E slot.

The Dx is a great value option, as Longweight as said, if you want to go all out, gwet the D2X!
What speakers will you be using though?

The sound card is here that i'm looking at http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asustek-Xon...DM2K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1329677443&sr=8-1

now this is what my board supports as slots go

    1 PCIe 2.0 *1_1 slot
2 PCIe 2.0 *16_1 slot (single at *16 or duel at *8/*8 mode)
    3 PCI 2.0 *1_2 slot
    4 PCI slot 1
    5 PCIe 2.0 *16_2 slot [grey] (at 8* mode)
    6 PCI slot 2
7 PCI 2.0 16_3 slot [black] (at *4 mode, compatable with PCIe and *4

now the stupid noob question I already have a graphics card in a PCIe slot and an old soundcard fitted but never worked, so what slot would you put the soundcard above in?

That will fit into any of the PCIe slots that you have free.

Maybe depending on your board. It might happen automatically or not be needed at all. A little experimentation will find out ;)
