Not sure I'm implying anything! It would be convenient to believe that we have all the facts, that there are no innocent victims and indeed that there are only 3 sides to the story. Easier to turn the page if you can believe all those are true.

Ok bad example, was just trying to give an example closer to (your) home.

So your rioters are better trained :D

Was my point earlier as well that they properly do not have the needed equipment and training for this to end on a happy note. But I doubt that the army would be set in, remember that molotov cocktails, knives bats and more are not enough in Europe to make the police fire indiscriminately on rioters, if that was the case quite a few people would also have died both in France a few years back and in several fights in Denmark a couple of years ago.

    Disgusting. Utterly disgusting.

The police didn't have to pull the triggers and didn't have to use live rounds.

Yup, an old law from the Apartheid times - feckwits. What it does do is get them all locked up and stop them causing trouble for the authorities.

But when you're put in that situation, and are trained to shoot, and only have live rounds on you, what else are you to do? Allow yourself to get killed?

Hmmm. This gives a bit more to it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6guOlOFY7Q

NOTE - It's not censored like the BBC links BUT you cannot actually see anything graphic besides dust from gunfire but because of that it's only linked and not embedded.

In countries where armed police are trained to defend themselves with lethal efficiency, I am still amazed to see people doing anything but peacefully protesting

IMO, This boils down to piss poor discipline on the police part, The CO should have a bollocking/sacking and a new training regime installed.
And utter stupidity on the protesting miners part, Bringing knives to a gun fight (sorry couldn't resist), They were stupid bringing weapons with them to a strike.
