Is my south bridge running too hot. I have my stock north bridge cooler on it, and it is quite hot to the touch. The mother board is an ecs kt600a, and the south bridge 8237. So could any one running a similar board to me, touch there south bridge, and tell me how hot it is running. I am thinking of putting an old s3 video card heatsink on it, (appears to be higher quality). What woiuld happen if it was overheating. Also for the north bridge, i want to be different, and make a custom heat pipe setup. I already have the heat pipe, (came out of a dead lappy), and the block that went on the cpu. How would i cool the heat pipe. Would giving it a larger surface area, in the way of 2 copper plates be sufficent. Ideas please, and if any one no's the theory behind heat pips, can you please tell me if this would, or wouldn't workl, and what i would have to do to get it to.

Just whack a heatsink on both of them and be done with it ;) . Tbh the southbridge doesn't need cooling but if you're worried that it's getting hot and you've got a spare hs then go for it.

i've found the SBs on most ECS boards to be hot. Just rip their NB cooler off and slap it on the SB, and put something beefy on the nb :D

Ok, ive sorted it. It involved puttin the heatsink off a s3 trio video card on it. It appeared to have a better surface area than the north bride (pins vs bars) and fitted better, and looked the place.

For the north bridge i put an old cryix cooler minus fan on it. I will eventually make a clip setup, or bolt it on, but for now it is held on with a dab of super glue.
And does any one no the reason ecs southbridges run hot, or is it just the way its designed.

he probably just means a dab on the corners and thermal grease in the middle. besides super glue comes off nice n easy.

Yep, thats what i done. I think it would hold a decent size heatsink (within reason), but it is still easy enough to remove. I think i would be quite hard to remove on lapped surfaces, as it would spread out, and cover a lot larger area than intended (i think that is what has happened to my south bridge, i didnt lap it, and i think it could be a rite prick to remove).
