I'm confused: this is a major game release and yet there's no review or anyone discussing it? IT'S FECKING AWESOME! Admittedly quite easy (at least so far, chapter 8 or 9) and a bit repetitive but I think Relic have nailed the feeling of being a space marine very well. Graphics are more than acceptable and Mark Strong voicing the main character makes me happy! Anyone else playing it?
Its not that easy. I've died a few times already, against the big orks. Not a fan of the health system, but it does just about work. It is nice to finally be running around as a Space Marine rather than commanding an army (DoW).
There have been a few comments regarding it in the Games Workshop thread over in General but that's about it. I've got my CE, was playing last night and having a blast (literally in the case of the Vengeance launcher). I'm not finding it particularly easy, dropship vs heavy plasma ought to be a forgone conclusion but my fellow marines are about as much use as a chocolate teapot when the extra troops get dropped in. I'll nail it later but I'm definitely finding it fun and it just feels right where the movement, size and environment are concerned. I'm definitely looking forwards to multiplayer but I reckon I'll try to complete the campaign first.
Multiplayer is great. ZiiP have quite a contingent playing it, and it's just brilliant fun. You can't just run in as well, it needs coordination to take and holds points.
Game have let me down for the first time on preorders... Hasn't even shipped yet, normally get things early... Given me £5 back though... But not happy
played the demo and it did seem fun (nailed the feel and look of 40k) but looked like it would get rather samey, so will probably pick it up cheaper when they release the co-op DLC.
I tried the demo, was super bored. Just seemed like an updated Gears of War. Not my kinda thing. Well put together tho.
OK, I've gotten a bit further in now and have found the ultimate weapon combo (for me anyway) power axe and plasma pistol. Thunder hammer is fun but too slow for my taste. I also see what people mean about it being a bit easy. It won't stop me replaying it though as I'm still finding it a hell of a lot of fun. Quite samey but in a good way - I like seeing things go splat! Edit: One fairly major downside to the thunder hammer - same restrictions as a jump pack. Pistol and bolter only while you have it equipped as you can't put it away to use a two handed gun. I can see it ending up as the multiplayer assault marine weapon of choice though - it's awesome with a jump pack!
i've been thinking about buying this, but GAME had to be cry-babies and have THQ pull it from UK steam store. With UK retail copies, can we register the game on steam despite it not being on steam store? If so I think I will have to do some business with Ziip gamestore again
Jump pack, thunder hammer, plasma pistol... bloody brilliant. Just finished the campaign, heres hopeing for a sequel
I bought a retail copy but preloaded it through Steam so yes, that definitely is an option. Mine was delivered on the 8th but I could only preload through Steam as the activation date was the 9th. I've tried out the multiplayer a bit now as well - good fun but the match making system is rather poor. Level 1-4 in a match with mostly level 20+? Messy.
I've went through the demo on PS3 a couple of times already - this game is pure awesomeness. Definitely not easy, as I get my ass handed to me fairly often even at normal difficulty.

I take back what I said about it being easy - the latter part of the game ( Spoiler when chaos enter the fray ) ramps up the difficulty a lot, especially when you're fighting a mixture of hand to hand and long range guys. I think I'm on the final chapter now. As for favourite weapon combinations, I rather like the chainsword/meltagun combination, with the lascannon as long range backup. However, jump pack and thunder hammer trumps all! One little tactic I like to employ when swarmed by enemies is to chuck a grenade at my own feet and roll away.
Actually niro I believe that you'll find game match making systems somewhat pre date the online console generation by a year or few. Anyway, it is a console port and no secret is made of it, it just happens to be a rather good one. It's also had a slightly more successful release than Dead Island (they got the right code for starters ) I did have the game bug out on me once - beating up an Ork Nob and was hit simultaneously by him and a grenade and ended up running around at a 45 degree angle so couldn't get the execution I needed to survive. Restarted the section and all OK. @Pete J: I love the melta gun but with so little ammo you have to pick and choose your shots too much for my liking. Lascannon is a must and the storm bolter is just fun! Proper "DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA" Spoiler Something which isn't made clear is that the cultists count the same as gretchin - instant executions for health. I tend to kill the bloodletters first, then the cultists to regain health and go after the marines last. The power axe really works a treat there with the AoE finisher it has in place of a stun.
The man is right. I never figured out how to beat Nobz (or other mini bosses) in hand to hand quick time events. Do you have to press a button combination or something? I just shot or melee'd them to death when they were stunned. Yeah, the melta gun could've done with at least an extra five shots or so, but you can murder quite a few people in one shot if timed right. I thought the storm bolter was a pile of arse though! The standard bolter was more effective! Anyhoo, all finished. Took me ten hours but I was playing on hard. The last fight ( Spoiler before you start the extended QTE final boss fight ) was particularly difficult and the fact that you can't skip cut scenes started to grate. The ending was a bit disappointing, but I imagine this is the first part of a trilogy, or at least I hope it is!
Go for an execution when they're stunned. If you're using the chainsword or power axe it's a button masher for supremacy. Thunder hammer just pulps them instantly. The storm bolter is a point blank range weapon, silly rate of fire and a bigger clip. Excellent for unloading just before they reach melee range. I had to use it as I just love the red mist effect when they die Return skips the majority of the cut scenes - I tried pretty much every key available until I found that one! I'm looking forwards to the exterminatus mode and it's been left wide open for a follow on campaign (fingers crossed!)
