The SpaceX corporation just launched their "Falcon1" prototype rocket from an island in the pacific today. they webcast a live feed. wooo what a ride. 161 miles of orbital awesome. here's a youtube vid of the feed EDIT:Apologies if this goes in the "youtube vids" thread, thought it deserved it's own.
linky no worky is it copyright and they've taken it down so soon? Even searching for SpaceX only comes up with their failed launch.
Just had a quick look round and it seems that they've not released the vid to the public yet. there was a contact phone number for media coverage. I wonder where the youtuber got hold of the video then?
all of us dorks over at fark.com were watching the live feed. the guy saved it then uploaded for those of us with crappy connections. the stream really sucked, but then again it's from the pacific. i think it's the one labeled "falcon 1 demo launch 2007" but i'm DLing it right now to check. EDIT: here's another youtube one //fight the man!
Oh well, that new link doesn't work either. Any chance of a torrent up already? I'm pretty sure the press release page with the phone number said that it was demo launch 2. Here's hoping.
I don't know what luck you've had but for me the high quality vid cuts out about half way. somewhere around 2min 40sec. the low quality is alright. I just wish there were other cameras so that we could see the decent as well. Did it seem kind of odd that towards the end it was sort of spinning? not really spinning but making circular corrections I guess. Anyway, I always love watching video of launches and spaceflight. Like many people, I dream of one day vacationing in orbit or on the moon. Maybe in 30 or 40 years it will be at least once in a lifetime affordable.
It was spinning because there was a problem. The flight didn't make it to orbit, either. http://www.spaceflightnow.com/falcon/f2/ It's a shame it didn't get to orbit - but it's a hell of a lot better than the last attempt. Third time's the charm.
