i did read the replies! the problem was that no-one replied answering my question! sorry.
    anyway..
i seem to have it figured out.
pins 1 and 2 are joined together and are the + for com a
the centre 2 are joined together and are common ground
last 2 pins are joined together and are the + for com b.
how do i now wire this to switch between 7v and 12v?
    thank you.

You're lucky I have a spare 2 minutes. Here you are:

It's not difficult. At the bottom is your molex. Yellow is 12v, Black is 0v and red is 5v. 12v goes straight to the fan positive as normal. The fan negative goes to the center pole of the switch. The two outer poles each go to 5v and 0v.

that didnt make any sense to me.sorry.
    thanks double c, it works!!
ok, i was talking to my dt teacher, who also did a bit of electronics, now they mite be able to order from RS for me, using the school tax code or whatever it is as they use RS and RS only deal with trade.
i was thinking of perhaps constructing a fan controller using a pot, and i saw one on cpemma's website that uses a transistor.
does anyone have any links or guides as to how to make one of these?
my electronics teacher's really interested now! and she wants to make one too, so i aint complaining!
    thanx
