I have a limited budget, and as a result have bought Eltax Speakers and an Eltax Amp for my Cambridge Audio DVD player.

Whilst they sound great, is there a tried and trusted way of setting the individual speaker volumes?

I mean, should the front and center speakers be set at 10, and the surround speakers at the back set to say 7?

I guess a lot is down to personal preference, but I thought that maybe there is a recommended standard for the individual speakers that will give the best audio result.

    Thanks in advance.

They should all sound equally loud, it depends on the setup of your system, your amp should be able to generate noise to each speaker in turn, let it go round and adjust each speaker till they all sound the same volume. Other than this you can start playing around with something like the Avia setup disk and an spl meter but this is a bit over the top for a budget system. If your amp doesnt do what i mentioned try a THX disk like finding nemo, it should have a thx setup option that will help you do something similar.

buy a sound pressure level meter, sit holding it at your usual seating position, play the test tone and adjust volumes so that all speakers are giving equally loud readings.
