Hello all, After many years of service, my battery powered hoover (or to be more specific, the batteries themselves) has final got to a point of being unusable. It did the job okay - could have been more powerful, but at the time it was reasonably priced and was purchased as part of moving into my first (and only) house. Anyway, I've been doing the usual Googling for "Best battery powered vacuum cleaner" and have quickly become bogged down in different choices. What I want is something that: Is so powerful it pretty much rips the carpet up. Can run for ~30-40 minutes minimum (and can be achieved by swapping over batteries). Bagless. Not too worried about capacity as it's only me in the house and I'm well trained. Bonus: a "Boost" button, which me being a red blooded male, will be permanently activated. Unfortunately, much like mobile phones, GPUs, diesel, hookers etc., the cost of these things has dramatically increased from a few years ago. These are a couple I'm considering: Dyson V15 Pros: It's a Dyson - love him or hate him, it damn well works. Golf ball through a garden hose, if the reviews are to be believed. Cons: OVER £600?!?!?!?! ARE YOU BLOODY JOKING?!?!?!?! James Dyson is a nob. Samsung Bespoke Jet Pro Extra Pros: I like Samsung because they make good SSDs, which definitely translates to hoover performance. Not Dyson, Nice little stand so I can keep it somewhere open in case of hoover emergencies, or run out of things to talk about if I have friends around (Joke! I never have friends around). Cons: OVER £500?!?!?!?! ARE YOU BLOODY JOKING?!?!?!?! Anyway, over to you chaps/chapesses. Please feel free to come up with alternatives - I'm in no rush, probably looking to buy in a month's time.
I've got a Tineco A11 Hero, which I got for £99 on sale. It's great - better than my old Dyson - and although it did have a motor failure a little under a year in the company sent out a replacement no fuss. The runtime on one battery at full speed (out of three) and with the motorised brush head is a little low, but the modern bundles come with two batteries - and the wall-mount stand thing can charge both at the same time.
YouTube channel Vacuum wars. Will put nearly every model through its paces, explains tests and while the weighting system mightn't be 100% it is still useful for comparing against each other and deciding https://youtube.com/@VacuumWars?si=JEalw-Uxe1mQ0sGn Also has a website https://vacuumwars.com/ Has round ups for all Dysons or all handhelds etc as well as individual reviews so should find what your looking for Generally all the high end models from Dyson, Shark etc you get what you pay for. All perform similarly. It's the cheaper models that cut corners to bring down price and make compromise to hit a price point. Haven't seen the Samsung tho he has covered a few of them in the past
Watching thread, because I am also in this market at the moment Yes, yes he is. Even if their products weren't overpriced and out-classed by competitors, I won't buy Dyson on principle.
Mum has one of these. https://sharkclean.co.uk/product/sh...gPR8oD6z7NpMe_xht1Lq_Pk03sTM3bzqwwROBmA7gHwC8 I ain't gonna lie the envy is strong. Especially given it empties itself, so doesn't need fiddling with very often (very large tank in the stand).
I run a Shark IZ320UKT, couldn't Believe the amount of **** it pulled from the carpet first time I ran it.
Get a Dyson V10 or V12? I've got the V10 and it's a cracking bit of kit, still just plugging away after what must be nearly five years? Run it full tilt and you won't get your 40 minutes from it, more like half that. But with a cordless vacuum cleaner your habits change and instead of doing the whole house in one go you tend to do bits and pieces as and when?
So, I accelerated the schedule as there's a sale on, and I went for... DRUMROLL... THE SHARK IW1511UK (SANS WASTE BIN THING) @Gunsmith 's and @Vault-Tec 's recommendation led to a bit of research and the reviews are great. It's also £200 at the moment, so a fraction of the cost of the original options. I didn't want the waste bin as I have nowhere to put it and also I'm quite happy just emptying it into a bin myself. I shall give it a go this weekend...
Make that two accelerated schedules. Shark already generally have a very good reputation so I have no concerns with any of their kit. I'd written them off because they're generally pretty spendy, but ~£200 was my ideal max. I realise that admitting this is me very clearly waving a massive middle-aged beige flag, but I've been thoroughly impressed at just how good our Henry vacuum cleaner is. But... it's a bit weighty and unwieldy to move around, making it difficult for the other half... So, bagless battery-powered vacuum cleaners have one more chance to impress me before I write all of them off as shite.
Can't remember what model it was but the missus just sent our Shark back to make way for a Bosch. So it seems we're in complete opposition to everything above! Don't know how it performs as I have staff to do that (ssshhh!) but it came with two batteries and unfortunately that's the limit of my knowledge on the subject. EDIT: It seems to be called an Unlimited 7 (although to me, that's putting exactly a limit on it....of slightly more than 6 but less than 8) and the staff report they're happy with it for the minute because it doesn't jam up like the Shark. Might also be because I've stopped shaving my armpits on the lounge rug.
I’ve had a couple of cordless/bagless vacuums over the years, and they’ve all been kinda naff. If it’s not the battery wearing out, it’s having to constantly clean the filters or the bucket filling up too quickly. That’s why I liked the Henry so much. The power cable reaches from one end of the house to the other and when it doesn’t pick up like it should I just toss in a new bag. We’ve had it two years and the number of times I’ve changed the bag can be counted on one hand. Cost a grand total of £140, and that includes a pack of 10 spare bags. But… with the other half having had major spinal surgery and being in recovery for months, a heavy and unwieldy vacuum cleaner isn’t ideal. This entire post is a “cool story bro” moment.
I've a Charles - which is the Henry model that can act as a wet vac too - and it's ace. Total pain to lug around, though, which is why I've got the stick vacuum too. Stick vac for quick once-overs, Charles once every couple of months for a deep clean. Best of both worlds!
I have a Dyson ball also but it drives me insane. First is the cable, then is how it loves to get caught and fall over. It's also heavy AF, so I just use it when I want to really suck that golf ball through the proverbial garden hose. I have a Hoover one. It was something daft like £110 but I can't fault it. Mum got the same one, but never used it (too heavy for her) so she is giving me that too. Which is great, 'cause I use mine to hoover the kitchen work tops and it gets a bit grubby. So I will use one for the floors and one for the kitchen. Will save me having to keep swapping the heads around too.
Christ, that reminds me. Mum dropped a Dyson down the stairs once. One of these ffs. Sounded like a fookin bomb going off !!
