How big are the products you're shooting? I've got a collection of black and white A1 card that I use as opposed to a specific backdrop.

your range will be huge from Lastolites hilite at £300 to some diy stands from Plastic plumbing waste pipes and a few meters of whatever coloured material from a fabric place. Try fleece type material for a non iron type, or canvas for a slightly nice feel
or use some shower curtains from Asda which cost about £3

For the super cheap route you can't beat shower curtains, poster board, or inexpensive bedsheets. With good lighting technique and colored gels you can make a white surface just about any color.

its easier to use a black background to get colours, infact using a black background you can make it any colour including white just by hitting it with enough light. I've tended to find lighting whites with colours gives a more pastel colour as it still lights the white element of the background.

Indeed. Though you can also turn white backgrounds black the same way. Since poster board and shower curtains are cheap gavbon might as well spring for a white and black - best of both worlds.

I saw this a while ago and thought it was interesting. Hope it's helpful for someone, possibly a little costly for the OP though?
