finding iv been needing a heat gun more and more and could save a tun of money on repairs on my partners and friends stuff if i had one. would a £20 gun be ok?
I bought a cheap one a couple of years back. Within two weeks the switch went brittle and snapped off. So I had to take it apart, remove the switch and just wire it up so that it comes on at low speed whenever I plug it in. Thankfully I deliberately fitted a plug socket to my desk for when I am working so I can just use the switch on there however beware, cheap usually means cheap. If you are going to be using it a lot I would get a decent brand like Bosch. I only use mine for shrinking shrink after soldering and general bending acrylic duties maybe once in a blue moon which is the only reason I haven't replaced it.
this is mostly phone/tablet repairs and so on. The glass/LCD is a lot of the time is one peace and is glued into the frame of the device where heat guns are needed. You can do it without but there is a high risk of making more damage to the device without a heat gun.
The heat gun I have gets hot after a while. It's because it is made out of very thin hard plastic. If you are going to use it professionally (for phone repairs etc) then I would strongly suggest getting a good one.
