Very annoying problem here. Please help.

I took my ATI 5770 out of my PC and put my old x1950XT back in (For many reasons...)

Now when launching counterstrike 1.6 or condition zero the game starts up in Software mode which looks awfull - it should be in OpenGL

I Un-installed the old drivers (5770) and installed the new ones for my x1950 - I can play games, BFBC2, Counterstrike source and anything else except counterstrike 1.6.

Whenever i try and change to OpenGL i get the error "The specified video mode is not supported. The game will now run in software mode."

    I've tried the following

    • Dxdiag reports no problems.
    • GPU Drivers are up to date
    • Reinstalled the drivers as well
    • Deleted the game and re-downloaded it from steam
    • Set -gl in launch options
    • downloaded the dxwebsetup.exe to get check direct X is up to date
    • tried compatability mode with the hl.exe

i KNOW it works because ive played this game on the same graphics card before on windows 7...but it no longer lets me.

NOTHING WORKS! What am i missing? Helppppp :waah: :waah::wallbash:

Well I had another game that would not run on my 22" screen in native mode. In that instance I fixed it by finding the game folder and looking for its config file.

Mine was called game.cfg so might be worth looking inside your Counterstrike folder to see if there is something similar? (Remember to save a copy of the file before you change it!)

Is it not possible to play CS with DirectX? I honestly can't remember.
Perhaps try older drivers for that card?
