Hey all and a happy new year.

So, I'm off to work yesterday afternoon on my nice and shiny 900 Honda fireblade when suddenly I'm face down, sliding down the road at about 100Kmh and watching my bike drift away, sparking, pieces flying off and billowing smoke form the motor.
First reaction,... AH cr@p! WTF just happend?!?
Turns out that the guy ahead of me blew out his engine and emptied all his oil on the road.
From what police tolled me later, it was one of those "I've built myself a racing car" complete with illegal supercharger, the works.:grr:
Anyway, the ambulance comes along, picks me up, and off we go to hospital.
So far, the only thing I feel is my knees and elbow slightly stinging and my right hand a little numb.
After 3 and half hours of x-rays, ultrasounds and 2 surgeons pushing, pulling and poking every conceivable part of body (literally),:nono:
it turns out that I got away with a tun load of bruises, a few scratches and a dislocated finger:D
The bad news is that the bike is a total write off.:waah::wallbash:

Apart from the fact that even typing this hurts, I think I'm really lucky I got to walk away from this with a few cuts and bruises!

So, a VERY happy new year to you all!!

And don't forget to wear protective clothing and a helmet!:thumb:

    Thanks guys,
Since the police got involved he's going to have to pay for damages. If his insurance gets involved it's going to take forever and a day resolve.

LOL, funny,.. in twisted kind of way:eeek:

Aw man what a horrible experience. I had a very severe crash on my bicycle when I was 14 and came away with smashed face teeth and broken jaw plus huge scabs everywhere, so I know it's not nice falling off. My first thought was. Is the bike ok, and I asked my dad not to scratch it whilst putting it in the garage.

Well the good thing is that you werent speeding into the bargain, which would be just soo tempting as I know a guy who was a motorcycling instructor, even he killed himself showing off.
I sincerly wish you a speedy recovery and no more accidents this year!:)

    That's a bummer.
In my experience once you've had a major crash you're effectively impossible to kill.

woah, you're greek, ride a bike and wear protective gear?

as far as i have ever seen, in greece, riders seem to think helmets are meant to be worn around the elbow. i'd hate to think what that would to to an arm in a crash.

Unfortunately you are correct. They're very few of us who actually take our safety seriously.
This is slowly changing here but not nearly as fast enough.
There was a piece about it on the news not so long ago here were the reporter would actually stop bikers and ask why they weren't wearing helmets.
You wouldn't believe some of the replies! One guy said "because it will mess up my hair":sigh:

In summer we get a lot of tourists who come to Greece on there bikes, in leathers, boots, gloves and helmets.
It's quite funny (in sad sort of way) to see a group of these guys waiting at the lights and one of our smart@sses rolls up on a 1000cc wearing a pair of shorts, sandles ,sunglasses and a "look how cool I am" look on his face:wallbash:

All I have to say to everyone who owns a motorbike or is considering buying one:
There are 2 kinds of riders, the ones who have fallen, and the ones who are going to fall.

So at very least wear the damn helmet!
