Well for a new case idea that I Would like to put into action over the summer (cross fingers) I need to use a plastic/acrylic sphere. It needs to be clear and I'd like to get something already made, but I don't know if I Can find something of quality - how could I make a sphere myself if I can't find something that suits my needs? It needs to be probably 15 inches in diameter, although I'm still unsure on that amount....but is there a way I could (easily, I've never modded before) make a sphere myself?
No i very much doubt u cna make one urself. You may be able to get one custom made for you. But i have seen afew sphere cases now, so they must be avalible somewhere.
The problem with a hamster ball is that it has all sorts of holes and slots in it, I want a nice clean smooth sphere. I may end up having to get one custom made for me unless I can find one somewhere. I'm sure that'll jack up the price for this mod quite a bit.
Is this of any use ? http://metku.net/index.html?sect=view&n=1&path=mods/epia_sphere/index_eng Not exactly home made, but a PC in a sphere, nonetheless.
If I could find out where the heck he got that thing, and get it in all clear - instead of that tint - then yes that would be amazing!
Try looking in your local Home improvement/lighting places and maybe you can find an outdoor light fitting with a clear plastic sphere? Just a thought.
I'll take a look next week. Thanks for the suggestion, I hadn't really thought of a lamp covering thingy.
Have you thought of vacuum-forming? You'd have to do it in two pieces, but I suppose if you want get the components in, then you really need two pieces anyway.... http://www.halloweenfear.com/vacuumformintro.html
look at the most recent project crimson skies did, He used a acrylic dome bought thru some US Manufacturer. IIRC it was a custom job but was relatively cheap.. Besides that the next best thing woudl probably be vaccuum forming
Most plastics shops that do custom Acrylics will have blow-molding equipment and should be abble to make them at any size you could want. Then simply affix the two halves together. I'm doing something similar, but as a round water cooling resevoir.
Nice idea with the resevoir. I'm thinking of doing something similar if this idea for a spherical case doesn't work out. About how much is it going to cost you - do you know? (and how big is it)
