Went to see this on Friday must say much mucher better than the first. However the first hour or so was very Dawson's Creakish with some terrible corny dialogoue between Paker / Jane. Although there were some really funny comedy moments put it (Spiderman delivering pizzas).

The CGI was better than the first espiecailly Doc Ock's tentacles with seamlessly fitted in with his charector. Overall the film wasn't bad, better than the first although MJ's charector has been forever reduced to screaming helpless woman. If you hated the first one you won't like this one as again it's being aimed at kids.

Judging by the ending of the move I'm thinking the Hob-Goblin will be the villian in the next movie (I really wanted to see Venom). If that's the case I'm hoping they come up with a much much better costume.

I think this Spiderman 2 has to be the best PG film for at least 5yrs if not more...

I thought it was great. I know parts were corney, but at the time the comic was written they werent such corney ideas and you have to give them leyway when it comes to saying true to the comic, which they have done 100%.. much better than others which I shall not mention "cough* LOTR *cough*

From what I hear Venom might be in #3.. then again these might be roumors.

Imo I think the Goblin charactor was villan of the 1st movie so I doubt he will be the only villan in the 3rd.

I agree with you, I'm thinking there will be 2 villians in the 3rd movie the Hob-Goblin and someone else. The way they left the scene at the end of the film with Harry find the Green Goblin stuff would be pretty stupied if they made no mention of it at all in the 3rd movie. I just don't see how Venom could be introduced in the space of one movie though unless most of his story is going to be skimmed over.

well the whole movie has been skimmed over really - how long did it take for MJ to find out that PP was SM in the comics? it only took 2 years for her to find out in movie land.

Venom has been introduced... sort of...

Jameson's son, the astronaut, recently returned from a trip into space? any of this sounding familiar? If venom's not in the next, i think he'll definetly be in the 4th

Exactly. And another note "Dr.Connors" Peters teacher who know Doc Ock is the Lizard in the comics. So yet another possibility in the next version.

So the tally of possibilities is: Hobgoblin, The Lizard, and Venom.

    My wish? VENOM!

mmmm seperation anxiety. Venom most likely won't be in the 3rd. Alot of stuff needs to happen. I think they need to throw some salt in peters game with MJ and start to introduce Blackcat cause she is way cool. I think they should have black cat, hob goblin and perhaps The lizard in the 3rd, then like build up the venom storyline in it Like he gets the suit etc. Then have the 4th one have like some of the sucky ones in it like shocker, mysterio and rhino, and then Have venom come up as the big one. so many possibilities

Mike> Than you will be happy to know they are planning on BlackCat potentially in the third and even have Eliza Dushku in mind as of last comicon talks.

Black Cat should have been in the second movie apparently but was written out. As for Venom, it's too early in the films lives based on the order Raimi is introducing characters. It'll be Hobgoblin Harry in SM3 with no doubt some super minions to spice things up.

As for the film itself, bit disappointed. Far too much emotional flannel and watery eyed sweet nothings and not enough web slinging. Doc Ock was underused imho, he was like a minor distraction to the main meat of the movie which was O.C like psycho-analysis and relationship counselling. I thought the first movie balanced the realist, Peter Parker side of life with the crazy Spider-Man aspect a lot better. Also it really shot its load too early in the series by having so many people aware of Spider-Mans true identity. Having MJ do the horrible wedding thing at the end was just awful. And in real life NYC someone would have snapped Spider-Man on the subway train on their camera phone... :)

Plus points were the (overall) superior CGI although the fight on the side of the building had some glaring instances of the Stretch Armstrong Syndrome. Doc Ock was fantastic, although he came across as too nice, rather than the pathological loony in the comics. The humour was good, but there should have been more of it, something that really made the first film stand out.

    3.5/5 from me.

you cant expect the story to be precisely like the comics. The audiences are completely different. I doubt they could have pulled off a "good doc' oc'" as well in the comics as they did in the film.

    BTW.
is there any where a person can buy spiderman comics these days. Not the new marvel crap, spider girl and all the fluff. The comics that start at the beginning and tell you the whole story?

There's a difference between sticking to the comics stories and lineage, and remaining true to the characters. I thought Doc Ock was watered down and made too decent. Sure the film version is a whole lot more rounded and grounded in reality than the slightly more shallow version in the comics, but whereas the Green Goblin was a perfect 21st century version of his 20th century original, Doc Ock was too different to his comic book version imho. If only they'd made him a little more evil and dangerous...

Every comic book store in the world. Look for the myriad of classic series and compendium volumes. You can get anything from the origins of Spiderman, to the classic McFarlane era stuff, right up to the wacky modern day glossy stuff.

Ok, I know I need to suspend my disbelief.. however, Doc Ock has no superpowers execpt his arms, so surely a swift punch from Spidey should lay him out cold?

Just for the record... Hobgoblin was a totally different character. Some guy that stole Norman's gear after he was dead I do believe.

Harry became Green Goblin II after his father died.

I loved the film, I went twice over the weekend. Mike, it was WAY funnier than the first. What you on about? :p

I disagree. I think the first film had a really playful, excited feel to it. With loads of great set pieces and incidental stuff that made you sit there with a **** eating grin on for the whole movie. Whereas SM2 had lots of smaller, more isolated moments of humour that simply broke up the overall feeling of melancholy and uncertainty.

    Beat me to it :(

I liked the film, but some of the inaccuracies annoyed me slightly.

Doesn't really matter, seeing as they initially got together in an airport when Parker was on assignment to France, rather than in a bloody abandoned warehouse (or whatever it was)...

It's probably been discussed to death already, but where on Earth was Gwen Stacy in the original film? Oh, wait.. no we won't include her 'cause she dies, and the kiddies won't like that. What about Harry going schizoid on LSD before Norman dies? Oh wait.. drugs are bad, we won't include that.

    Blah blah blah.
