as title - been running spinrite for 52 hours now on my childrens laptop - stalled at 54% for 12 hours and now on 56% think its not well now do i let it keep going or shut it down as a bad loss?
I can't say I had heard of that particular software, but assuming you were running it to attempt data recovery, I've had other tools take longer than this. If they do really thorough checks involving trying to read every single sector, and encounter many read errors due to a section of the drive that has gone bad, and retry a few times for each of those, they can take a very, very long time. I think the longest I left one was 9 days solid. When the scanning was eventually finished I did manage to recover the data, not the stuff on the failed bit of the drive of course, but the rest was fine.
