How difficult would it be to build this: http://www.drinkstuff.com/products/product.asp?ID=431&title=Sprintz+Shot+Glass+Set it would be cool if we could have it countdown, check for false starts (if you remove the glass before the countdown is over) and then display the time (x.xx sec) needed for the glass to be put back on the coaster.
it wouldant be too hard (for Zap it would be a one minute thing) all you need is a start stop timer and a few buttons. have it set up to time when the button is off and then stop when it is pressed again
the glasses are dark bottomed, so it is probably a photo sensitive switch type thing, so the whole circuit can be contained in the box and not get wet,
no I think it uses a magnet with a hall-sensor: a magnet in the glass a hall-sensor on the PCB I can't give you anymore advice 'cause I myself don't know much about electronics.
