I think the problem is not so much that people don't know what spyware is, the problem is that most people think their PCs should just be able to run without them having to do anything - hence the reason why there are still viruses in the wild that are 12-18 months old.
You have to admit, they've got a point - my car works without me having to do anything, I don't need to constantly patch my DVD player to get it to work - so why should I have to worry about my PC?

Phew, the pun is strong is this one.

This is just a terminology issue, they might not know what "spyware" is, but you ask them whether they get those annoying popup windows and browser hijack things, they'll know exactly what you mean. I believe Shakespare wrote "A virus by any other name is just as god damned infuriating."

cut those tards off from the internet. because it's, of course, people getting it that keeps it in existance, much like virii and people clicking on popups (TY Firefox/Adblock!)

It's things like this that bolster my fear that newer age consoles will slowly eat up the computer industry. Why buy a computer that can get the sniffles when you can buy a PS3 that will play movies, music and near-pc-quality games? And probably at a lower price?

Personally, they can have my PC when they pry it from my cold, dead clutches.

I'm sure it was a multiple choice thing -

    "Spyware is:
    A. illicit software installed on your computer without your knowledge that tracks your activities on the internet -
    B. something else
    C. something else
    D. a device from the star wars movies"

I have 3 different friends that wanted me to help them buy a new computer because theirs was too slow. I installed adaware for them and they decided that they didn't need a new computer after all......
