While i can't imagine how large a project and daunting and risky an undertaking a remake would be, I can't believe that Square Enix wouldn't try it after Advent Children and a slew of FFVII side-games.

    I would buy a PS3 solely for a remake.

Some day? 2007 seems like a good year. 10th aniversary and all.
(At the very least, a re-release of the PS1 game?)

As much as I like the idea of a remake I believe the demo was soley to drunm up speculation and thus free marketing for the PS3 really.

I read in some Q & A that there was no current plans and that it stated that that it doesn't mean there will not be any.
I would love to see a remake of the game

    Curious:

How many games are popular almost ten years after their release. Usually the ones that define the system.

    Doom
    Sonic
    Mario
    Zelda

    Edit: GoldenEye (N64)

(I'm talking about the very original titles, not the sequals/remakes.)

Remake or not, the fact that fans are still as in love with this game now as they were 9 years ago strikes me as quite a feat.

The idea of a complete remake makes me nervous, but I'd still love to see a well-done one. Even the tech demo was a bit worrysome - I'd want it *exactly* as it was in '97 and even the way that Cloud jumped off the train bugged me a little (umm... everyone else?!)

Never going to be exactly the same though - it will be a remake in much the same way the recenet remake of King Kong wasn't the same as the original.

Advent Children was poor - just let FF7 retire :)

Why mess with it? Just port it. FFVII didn't require BETTER graphics. If anything, I think better would take away from the feel of it a little. They can/should release just a FFVII/VIII/IX compilation disc, just like they did with the older ones. Put that blu-ray drive to some decent use.

I wouldn't mind seeing a version with tarted up graphics as a cheap download or as you mention a compilation version but remaking the whole thing and selling at as full price game strikes me as a bit unecissary, especially as PS3 will play the original. Hopefully the'll make XIII as good now as VII was then.

I just wish FFVII didn't have gouraud shading. Gross...

The only other issue I had was how inconsistent the FMV characters were. One minute they were human-esque, the next they were cartoons like the in-game models. Annoying.

I am a fan of the old Final Fantasy genre of games out there and i would of loved to see a remake for FFVII but ah well, i was going to get a PS3 anyway... ands i still will, but it is a bit sad to see it go, not surprising though with all the work SquareE has had over the last 18months.

one of the few reasons i was going to buy a PS3 was to play a remake of FF7 :waah: its the only rpg ive ever played longer than i should lol when i saw the tech demo my heart skipped a beat :jawdrop: i just had to have that game again! anyway i think a remake would sell like hot-cakes despite what ppl say, but i guess it'll never happen

I have to go with Da Dego. Some part of me greatly prefers FFVII as it is. A remake would feel kind of ackward.

7, 8 and 9 on one disc would consume my social life - fragile as it already is :p

Instead of remaking FFVII, SquareEnix should bring the remake of Dragon Quest 5 statesside. I am sorry, but I have my PS1 and my original copy of FFVII to keep me entertained. I want some Enix remakes, screw Square. Us Enix RPG fans are getting shafted (it all started with the cancellation of the DQ4 remake.....)
