I have managed to break the L shaped plastic bit on top of the data cable connection, I am assuming that the drive is now useless?
If the pins are intact there is a small chance you'll get away with it, if not then you could well be stuffed...
If I had the plastic I might well have gone that route but alas this is not so. Pins are fine but I refer you to the answer to mrbungle. Oh well, I really did not expect there to be a solution. Cheers.
Have you lost the plastic bit? I'm sure someone here must have a dead HD lying around they could send you so you can try fixing it? If not, send it to me and I'll give it a try!
I had this problem on a WD Raptor moons ago - stuck the L-shaped plastic into the cable end, then carefully positioned it over the pins. Worked fine for a couple of years like that.
Tell you what George, bung me your address, I will send it to you if you can fix it you can keep it. It's only a Kingston SSDnow V 128Gb and to be honest I would never trust it again. So you can play with it.
Received the SSD from Kronos yesterday afternoon however this was after spending all afternoon at a beer festival so I thought better of trying to fix it straight away... Anyway - this was the condition of the pins: One was obviously bent but with a tiny jeweller's screwdriver I was able to get it back in place Next was to find a donor SATA piece of plastic from a colleague's knackered HDD - commence the dismantling (two of the screws threaded so it did require that level of 'persuasion') Success! After spending a while carefully removing the required piece of plastic with a craft knife and trimming it down to fit I was ready to superglue I decided to apply it using the end of the craft knife to be as accurate as possible Not perfect but Good enough! Hope this helps anyone else in a similar situation. Time to give KRONOS all the rep!
