Howdy all, I've been out of the SSD loop for a while, but I'm now looking for an SSD for my OS, size around 60gb. Two SSDs are currently looking nice - the Vertex 3 60GB (£98 on ebuyer) and the Crucial M4 64GB (£76 on ebuyer). Can anyone offer advise? Also, whether to bother getting a Highpoint Rocket 620?
Crucial are a reputable company and the drive offers excellent performance and 4GB more for £20 less. I have a few Crucial SSD myself, they have all been great and continue to offer excellent performance. Also have some Vertex 3 as my main drives which are equally good. These days what with the firmware upgrades offered from Crucial I'd choose the lower priced M4, you'll be happy with the performance and the saving over the Vertex 3.
I must say the Crucial is looking good, suprisingly cheap too. Am I correct that Vertex 3s lose some performance out of the box, which is non-recoverable with TRIM, whereas the M4s do not?
I did at first suspect the same of my Vertex 3 but it turned out to be a game patch that had slowed down the load times from a save game! I run a benchmark every now and again and performance has been maintained be it my OCZ Vertex 3 or my Crucial M4/C300. Don't read to much in to everything posted about SSD on-line, it's still a dark art to most PC users!
