Just got an OCZ agility 3. Windows installer won't detect it but device manager will. I have a maximus IV z68 and its using the marvell 6gb/s connector, its in ahci mode.
Download Gparted, reformat the SSD with that. I've had this issue before. It's a messed up Partition Table. Gparted will rebuild it for you. Took me two days to figure this out the first time.
Updated MB BS too? That's important. If that doesn't work then try the SSD in a ST2 port. If that doesn't work post the SSD to me and buy a regular HD.
Plug it into sata 1 and remove all other drives. Once youve get it all set up you can plug them back in
It will also show up in Command prompt from the Windows install Disk right? Reformat it with Gparted. Just a quick format will do, Gparted needs to rebuild the Partitioning table (Something Windows doesn't do, for some reason.) before it can detect it within the Windows Setup. Honestly; try this before you go into anything too technical. It should only take ten minutes, at most, and it should solve it.
Along with giving bdigital rep as it's almost completely the advice i'd give... ...why the devil are you plugging it into the Marvell port? it'll be much slower than the 6Gb/s intel ones (2nd red ones down/next to the grey ones) on your board... There should be no need to do this with a brand new SSD as it'll be completely blank... ...i'd go with bdigital's advice (plus mine about the controller)... & the next things to try would be to a secure erase (this method's easy) & check that you've got the latest f/w on it (using the toolbox) within the currently installed version of Windows.
Hi mattyh1995, I had the same or similar problem with my OCZ Vertex 3. I solved it, if I remember correctly, by changing a BIOS setting from SATA to AHCI - apparently the SSD prefers to run in SATA emulation mode. Works fine now I seem to remember having to reinstall windows once this change had taken place, something to do with the AHCI driver being disabled during install if not needed.
You can convert a windows installation from IDE to AHCI with a simple microsoft registry fix. It's a download you run then reboot, go into bios, change to AHCI mode then boot into windows. The fix is here... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976 This means you can change from IDE mode to AHCI without reinstalling windows. Until recently motherboards defaulted to IDE mode, it seems some of the latest boards now default to AHCI.
