HAPPY ST PATRICKS DAY!!! Even if you're not Irish, it's an excuse for a drink (or.. 7). My friends and I are heading out tonight to get completely drunk on green beer. I've decided it'd be a good idea to take my camera - I might not feel that way in the morning. How will you celebrate?
Got together with family today to eat the traditional corned beef*, cabbage, and boiled potatoes, and to drink many a pint. The Irish folk music in the CD player really brought it home. *And yes, before anyone brings it up: I do realize that corned beef is a traditional Jewish food that the Irish immigrants discovered after they came over to America. -monkey
I will celebrate by avoiding the student unions edit: hmm, first poster is australian, second is texan... any /real/ irish folk here ?
i'll celebrate it the same way i normally do by farming four leaf clovers and shamrock ale to sell to noobs in guild wars
Does about 1/4th count? I drank several bottles of Hacker Pschorr and called it close enough, bring it on part two!
1/4 Irish here. Wearing green socks, but people aren't into that entire 'no green, tickles!' culture here.
real irish? just living there... I'll spend my day at work, then I will raid the fridge for some beer and oh well, go to work tomorrow again.
How will I celebrate? By trying to ignore the fact that it's some-country-I-couldn't-care-less-about's patron saint's day.
St. Pats really is a triumph of Irish Guinness marketing. Honestly i don't do anything for St. Andrews why whould i do st. pats, **** the closest i get to this nonsense is going to a burns supper.
A bit more blunt than I'd put it, but the same net effect. As someone who doesn't drink, there's not a whole lot of other options.
By some comparisons, our family hasn't been in this country very long. We really enjoy our Irish roots, and we're pretty familiar with traditional Irish meals. Having eaten in quite a few local restaurants/pubs across Ireland, we've tasted first hand the delicious stews and boiled potatoes. I guess you could say corned beef is traditional to the American Irish by way of the Jews. It's a success story of co-mingling cultures! -monkey
It's not bad actually...looks a bit like dilute fairy liquid though. Beware urinals with troughs too or you'll get funny looks after the 6th/7th pint. I thought the pope had moved St Pats to Saturday because today is another catholic celebration? London seem to have a weeks worth of stuff planned and that finishes up today. Do they still have the parade in NYC?
