Only problem I have in signing up is I have been bitten some many times into the hype only to feel disappointed when the game is released. With this I might wait and see how the game pans out on release

 

No one's forcing you to mate. Backing this game is essentially being involved in development and publishing. The marketing is the backers. That's how Chris treats the backers too, which is turning this into one of the most epic games I've ever seen.

Of course, it's your money and no one can tell you how to spend it, but you can expect the prices to increase as the game comes into fruition. Even if you don't spend money on a ship, the time spent in game to get the same ship has already been confirmed as at least 3-4 times the amount currently being pledged. (eg. a $25 ship like the Aurora is about 25,000 UEC currently, but once in game, could be around 100,000 UEC. It's money vs. time, whichever you value more).

Quick question - can you pay for a ship with in game money right now?
I mean when you have your account already and have a ship - can you sell it and buy new one with in game money or do you need to pay with real dollars?

Second question: can you guys tell me (who has account) how much would cost upgrade from standard 300i to 525A ship? Ship upgrade only, when you already have 300i.

 

There is no in-game money system at the moment. It is being setup so you can begin collecting UEC during the dogfighting module and spend it on small items in the Voyager Direct store, but it's not available to pay for ships with at present. However, if you own a ship currently, you can go into the "My Hangar" section on the website and exchange it for credit. You can then put this credit towards a new ship/package/whatever and just pay the difference.

That is going to be different from person to person due to what point that person pledged. Original backers get the ships cheaper and with more options as a thank you for helping to get the project off the ground. The easiest way is to check both in your store, see the price and figure the difference from there.

 

No, you can currently only pay for ships with real cash. If you 'melt down' a pledge (ie: a ship you have already paid for) you get credited in dollars for that amount. The in-game credit system only works in the Voyager Direct store, not the pledge store.

To upgrade from a 300i to a 325a would cost you $15. The 300i is a $55 package, which you would melt down, and the 325A is $70. The ability to pay for a $15 upgrade was removed months and months ago, but this achieves the same thing.

EDIT: This is original backer pricing, the cheapest possible.

thanks for the suggestions guys. I did pledge on a whim, but can't remember how much or what i got for it beyond i think i get the game when it releases. I'll hve a check when i get home.

I'm well aware of Chris Roberts, I spent a summer ploughing through WC 2 and 3 because I needed a change from TIE fighter (why can't they make a movie and reboot that!). But I also remember the wing commander movie and all the things that were horribly wrong with it :/

I made a bounty hunter pledge. A toss up between installing freelancer or X3TC in the mean time

 

Make sure you have the latest drivers, as this hangar module is a pre-alpha.

I've started replaying Freelancer about 3 days ago!

 

If you are playing Freelancer again, take a look at the crossfire mod. Adds in a new campaign after you finish the vanilla one plus makes loads of graphical tweaks including things like draw distance and also ups the flying speeds and combat difficulty.

 

Where are you guys getting your copies from?

I've had several over the years and lost them each time.
Mostly looking for one that I can actually play online with (there are STILL servers running!)

 

You can get them from Ebay for around £10 to £15 (or less if you get lucky). I really wish someone like Steam would get hold of it though, it would sell like crazy again

 

Microsoft has the rights... they will never let go of it.

 

Luckily I've still got my copy, still an enjoyable game modded up.

 

I have a copy of Freelancer that I won donkeys years ago.

Never played it. All this SC talk has prompted me to install it this weekend though

 

I was wondering - I bought Arbiter package, which gives me 2000 UEC. Then when you download the hangar for a first time you get 5000UEC for free. So why I only have 5000 on my account? Like this package money didnt go through...
