I added a freelancer to my ship list today. 3.0 looks awesome me and a m8 have both increased our pledges. Not sure if that won't become something else by Christmas lol.

    fully behind star citizen,

here, I am down with them ready in 2020, that's a proper first gen view look at the world, the universe of the dream.

Does not even need to have VR in the next 18 months.

Can have 25 more ships, per month, per year, what ever they want to do but when a player buckle up that better mean a good try at what we are thinking is possible, personal management, external mass groups, allegiances. Tools, ability to hide, seek, build, take play.

In space, its black, but we are looking at making it a little brighter, by way of the laser if required..

@IanW: at the SC event? You must've met Bal and Neo. The rest of us were hungry and had met CIG at other times, so we headed off for a very late supper.

Congrats rollo, I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the Freelancer was in the free fly event. It's on my list of ships to get.

Free fly is over, immediately missed the Sabre, decided to do a 'buy back' on my original Sabre LTI package, which had been upgraded to a warden (which I recently melted). Might still melt it for a Super Hornet if it's in the anniversary sale, as the second seat and jump drive give it a little more versatility, even if I do prefer the speed and looks for the Sabre!

Still not decided on the Freelancer Variant, i'm gona hold out making changes till 2.5 and see how the Kore flies. Not sure if it has been confirmed that the people pods can be removed from the Avenger yet, but the avenger seems to have more small cargo locking plates than the Kore, which if true, might make the Avenger the one to keep (when combined with the bed and extra firepower), in which case the Kore will be turned into either a Dur or Freelancer standard.

SC is the most ambitious and impressive game I've ever seen but I won't be playing unless they get it running on VR. Playing it through a tiny rectangular window doesn't do it for me.

@stanley: having tried vr at Gamescom, I now understand where you're coming from and SC will be an incredible experience with it. However, vr is a long way from ready IMO since the resolution is still too low. I'm going to write about my experiences in another thread.

Pete - Sorry I missed you.

Apparently the Free Fly was MISTAKENLY ended at midnight UK time, instead of midnight LA time, so it's back up.

Anyone having trouble entering RSI chatrooms should regenerate their XMPP token on their RSI account page.
The reason is that the chat crashed hard last night, and was reset to defaults.

Also, Gamescom 2017 dates are 23-27 Aug (Bank Holiday weekend), for those thinking of going next year.

I updated the Fleet Roster to cover the 4 Reliant variants, although the locked overview tab will need to be updated to reflect the change and people will need to update their entries to the specific variants.

    Hope that was ok.

Haha! While I'm certainly not going to delay playing it because of VR, it will be beautiful when it's eventually implemented.

I think someone's said something similar already, but I don't like the way the hype train has jumped ship from No Man's Sky to Star Citizen. Granted, SC is a big deal, but I know it still needs several months (if not a year or two) to mature.

From outside the bubble, I can assure you that there is no hype train for Star Citizen. Cautious optimism at best I think.

Yeah, the timing of NMS and the 3.0 demonstration has pushed a lot of attention over, theres a few 'NMS flopped, SC is everything NMS should have been and more' type articles joining the flop & hype factor of both, but they're nothing like each other really. NMS was never meant to be more than an arcade galaxy, casual over realistic. Though i could imagine theres plenty of people who got excited for NMS completely unaware of SC's existence because it doesnt have the same media presence, especially mainstream, because it not being pushed with advertising spots and sharing Sonys stage at events like E3 etc.

The timing & feeling behind both games has made them easy to connect for an easy article, theres a long way to go yet but at least with CIG they're pretty up-front with how things are going and what they expect, they show stuff as-is and they've been putting it in our hands when its ready, and even when its been easier to give in and provide us with an unsatisfactory build (Arena Commander, Star Marine etc) they've refused, they've taken the time its needed and had some respect for what they're doing, at the cost of missing a deadline.

Also, on a different subject, i saw a video a few hrs ago of CR being interviewed outside Gamescom i presume, and the question of ship prices in-game came up and it was quite interesting. Basically comparing relevant prices IRL - Gun = $500, small plane/jet = $100k-2m, military jet = $20m, carriers = $500m-$4b and how things of a personal scale like weapons & armor arent cheap, but transport is a whole lot more, and SC needs to be similar to hold value to things, and the huge ships are really meant for orgs to buy & run, rather than being obtainable for individuals (without the grinding that it obviously will have if solo).

He also mentioned the USD prices of SC ships, saying in-game the ships will have a bigger disparity between them than they have in USD.
So currently $100 buys you 3 Auroras or 1 Hornet. In the PU, the Hornet could be 10x or more expensive than an Aurora, let alone an Idris etc. Not headline news, but a perspective.

The actual question iirc was more towards how long it'd take to earn ships, unsurprisingly it didnt really get answered ("its something we're working out currently" or words to that effect) and went on to them trying to simply balance goods like guns, small ships and huge ships.

I've no idea what you're attempting to say, but what you've typed is fairly redundant. You've opted to go down a different path than was being discussed by anyone in here.

Because of the timing of NMS's release and its disappointment, then SC showing their 3.0 demonstration, media outlets have taken both events and created their own story. They're riding on the NMS hype for views, because theres interest in the story, and then attaching the excitement for SC3.0 to that story.
They're taking the hype that was never satisfied with NMS and saying this looks better, and theres every chance that some of the gamers who had high hopes for NMS are going to bring their hype to SC because thats their new hope, because at least on face value the 3.0 demo was probably what most people wanted from NMS when they first saw it.
I dont suppose too many were into NMS for its budget hardware visuals, or for the depth & complexity of mining & crafting, of space combat, or for the Spore lifeforms etc :D they wanted a complex universe and a sense of adventure in the unknown, and because they werent told the truth, the possibility of against all odds encountering another player.

Now, maybe when they find out more about SC it turns out they dont want the degree of realism & complexity CIG are going for, but the prospect of being in space and exploring or whatever you want to do, is far more meaningful and compelling in SC than it was ever made out to be in NMS, and with that prospect presented to people who got excited for NMS, its hardly unrealistic that some of their hype for such a title gets refocused to something looking to do much more.

Also, while getting something to eat i remembered something i wanted to bring up - CR somewhat casually mentioning that we should be able to build on these planets (around the time when they parked the Freelancer randomly). I havent seen much in the way of surprise or thoughts on the possibility, i think the way it was dropped in rather than as a bullet-point moment before or after the demo, maybe sent it under the radar a little.
Its certainly an interesting idea, i'd settle for being able to have sub-surface bases, with the end product being a hangar entry bay a bit like Delmar, and then any possible customisation & extension going on below surface. Having them above surface would be amazing, but hard to imagine it'd be possible when you consider terrain and linking it all etc.
I know theres been questions in the community about owning factories, its plausible that in an ideal world this could solve that, where goods which are otherwise produced by NPC owned factories, could be produced by players in the same way. Generic goods seems reasonable, goods to be traded like processed food, electronic goods, apparel, 'ship parts'. Some usable items like ammo, missiles is fine, but not RSI and Klaus & Werner type factories etc.

What does everyone else think this is likely to result in? I'd be happy with the bare minimum, but when you think about what the ProcGen team were intended for and what we're getting, it could be pretty awesome.

edit - I was wrong about the timing of the comment, it comes shortly after the demo ends...

Having a little place to call home would be amazing for Star Citizen! Even if it's a launch pad that raises above ground to solve clipping and everything else underground..
