But on paper its so much worse than the constellation.

 

Personally not reading too much into ship stats yet. Too much time for stat balancing and mods before the game is anywhere near release. Current stats indicate the ships purpose etc. but too early for specifics imo.

I firmly believe all ships will have their place and the limited release ships will obviously command premiums in the marketplace down the line.

I now have the Rear Admiral (Stella) and a Caterpillar. Missing a fighter and solo trader/exploration. Wallet firmly shut for a while!

 

I love the Caterpillar's looks (and the description of it being the Freelancers evil twin) but I can't justify it.

I don't get the 'Cat at all. It has an asking price of $225 for a ship that is identical to the Freelancer, except it can carry a few more crew...but the Freelancer was $110. How can the ability to carry a handful more passengers be worth $115? The design is great, but I really can't justify it in the slightest.

In fact, they're asking the same for a 'Cat as a 'Stella. What?

 

Yeah, I mean, the Connie (same price) wipes the floor with it.

You want one it (currently) has to be this weekend.
And people are paying it too. You look at the money graph on the front page and it spikes hard on Friday/Saturday

So I feel the need for a third ship, I just need to find some justification
I have my Cutlass, I have my Hornet.
So, staying under the $100 mark (friends have Connie's and 'Lancers), what other ship would you snaffle and why?

 

It's not "limited" - the 'Cat was available to be backed for months, until they removed the non-core ships for sale. I had the same issue with it then, which is why it's one of the few ships I don't own. This 'flash sale' is simply to try and get some more funding out of the user base, which is fine by me, but it doesn't stop the 'Cat being ludicrously priced. If it was $150 I feel it'd be more in the pricing structure of the other pledge ships.

As for yourself, I think you need a 300 series, probably a 325a. Your Hornet does dogfighting duty, the Cutlass any cargo hauling etc, so you need a exploration ship!

 

This proves my point really.
I doubt I'm the only new backer who looked at the Cat and went "oooooooooo" followed by "awwwww" when it wasn't available to buy. Then winced at the wallet pain when they put it up for sale on Friday and had to talk myself out of it

And it looks better than the Connie all day

I have my 325A and I'm happy with it. It's like allround ship, good for everything. I don't have money to buy Constellation which I would like to have, but I think it's better that way.
I will play with 325A and earn money for it. It's like using trainers or codes in games - when you play and feel difficulty it pushes you to play and try more. If you use codes, I lose interest in game.
Cat looks cool, but I would still prefer Constellation.

 

So did anyone buy the Drake Interplanetary Caterpillar over the weekend sale? I did, but I'm wondering if I should resell it on, as my squadron is tagging me for Squadron Leader roles rather than support and logistics. Might be restructuring my spacecraft fleet as it is.

 

I love the look, but the stats don't match the price (I know, I know, they aren't final, but thats all we have to go on at the moment).

With all of your ships, you might as well just buy an Idris and a Hornet. What fleet are you in btw?

 

I'd be in for a squadron, only bought the bounty hunter pack though. No plans to buy much else till later in the beta.
