The event (and corresponding "Free Fly") begins at 4pm UK time on Friday.
Pyro is still on an occasionally-open PTU build and won't be pushed to live servers until sometime next year.

Did it say what it was for? I am wondering why they would need to collect that data, and incentivising responses. I would fill it in 100 times if it meant money back from them.

The person who created that video I posted has a series of them, a stark view of Roberts and his band of merry frauds' modus operandi. Never have so few scammed so many for so long.

Potloc haha. Sounds about right. Pot luck, dreams and goodwill is how they accumulated all that funding.

Perfection takes time lads, I'm sure 1300 employees aren't sitting around collecting a pay check for nothing. tbf I didn't expect to be 4 builds in and counting before this was officially released either.

I admire your patience, but I have long given up on Star Citizen. I still hope for a Squadron release which CR has claimed is the main focus for many years

For reference: RDR2 (which had a similarly massive head count working on it) took around 200 million and 8 years... Star Citizen is at more than double the budget and rapidly approaching double the development time.
And thats the most generous interpretation.

The far less generous interpretation is that Star Citizen is at 250x the original funding goal of 2 million and already a decade late with no end to development in sight.
And while feature creep can explain some of that... it also raises serious concerns regarding the management, because what has happened so far is very strong evidence that Chris Roberts will simply never stop chasing his next feature creep high like a junkie.
Who is still going to be around in 2045 when he decides to restart development from scratch in Unreal Engine 8 to give you slightly more realistic shadows?

Apparently they have raised over $700 million, so more like 3.5 times the budget!

Let's be honest, for as long as backers continue to throw money at the project, nothing is ever getting finished. And according to their funding tracker, they're bringing in $5m a month as standard and then there are spikes up to $20m in some months. Whether those numbers are real or not is another question, of course, but the point stands that while people keep giving Roberts seemingly unlimited funds, he will keep on adding new "features", re-doing existing ones, and generally spinning this out forever.

I really don't know how anyone can retain any faith in him at this point. He might be a visionary (and reasonable people can disagree) but he's not capable of delivering his vision.

And thats $700m without any other investment, as I remember them talking about VC around 2014-2016, so they might have actually passed a billion at this stage...

I used to look down on this with the occasional smirks and eye-rolls but I haven't played it and I doubt I ever will. So, if enough people are enjoying it who don't mind the wait for features/missed deadlines, let them get on with it.

I think the problem started with who they recruited to actually make the game when they transitioned from a fan led pitch with a simple demo, to a game company, and then a large game company.

They mostly recruited developers from Blizzard, and from what I gather, most of them did not understand the concept and mainly wanted to play a fantasy MMO, hence the over focus on clothing and moody locations for what seemed like years. One can then blame the recruitment process. I know they were absolutely desperate to get staff through the door in the first few years, and beyond.

Having said this I am not a Star Citizen apologist. I think it is ****ed up how Christopher Roberts and co continue to rake in millions in "pledges". At this point they are not needing to use it for the game, it goes into pockets and accounts of the execs. I know this for a fact.

Those, and there are some on this board, who think "good, more money for the perfection of the game", are kidding themselves.

It is really depressing how this turned out.

I think actually rather than blaming the recruitment process, one needs to blame whoever is managing this studio. If you've hired a ton of people and they're not working on what they're supposed to be working on, that's a failure of management. If they are working on what they're supposed to be working on but it isn't stuff that will actually progress your project, that's a failure of management.
