So, is the 2026 all of Squadron 42 or is it still split into a trilogy and this is Sq 42 part 1?

10 years after the original scheduled release date. Chris Roberts saw Duke Nukem Forever and said hold my beer.

A vid of progress for people still interested.

    Edit:

I have to say I watched that gameplay and the move between cinematic and action, it's pretty awesome. I still hope to be playing Squadron 42 some time before I die!

I don't think it qualifies. It hasn't been made - its still being made.

I've been 'playing' the 4.0 preview with a friend for the last week, between the server crashes and servers that are impossible to get on we've only had a handful of hours a actually in the game doing something productive! If people are wanting to pay I'd wait till 4.0 goes fully live, as the servers are a mess right now. Only a billion dollars, can't get proper servers... Also there's 3 'alpha' versions active right now, thats the insanity of this game...

The last 3x patch was stable in SC terms but I found the 4.0 preview with increased player cap and 'server meshing' terrible. Broke a few of the repeatable quests that I had been enjoying. I found the planet side NPCs the best so far though and if you squinted it started to feel like a living universe

I would avoid until 4.1 or 4.2 personally. That's normally how long they take to steer the tanker back.

Glassdoor comments from developers that left CIG discuss how awful the engine is, albeit they had an axe to grind.

We've discussed it on here over the years, using CryEngine was a bad idea

10 months on from my last post CIG have released something like 9 patches this year but I haven't been on since Jan - 4.0 with first server meshing iteration was so very broken. That was deemed the last 'pillar' required.

Anyone been playing how is it now?

This is one of many, many things I STILL haven't gotten around to doing.

Going to try and clear the decks a bit over the next few weeks, so hopefully get to give it a go before another year rolls off the calendar.

Investigative journalism is an expensive dying art. It once exposed major corruption through a free press but it takes real time. CIG and the Star Citizen project need a whistleblower to look into their 882 million dollar funding.

For me, this has proven to be a bait-and-switch scheme.

When first pitched in 2012, it was shown as almost finished and running in engine (bait). Then came the seamless planet tech and single player demo (bait) both shown as feasible and just around the corner. The former is still a tech demo, and latter is non-existent 12 years later (switch).

Now they are adding “instancing,” where solo or small groups play away from the main server. They hide loading screens behind lifts or transport systems. Their main promise of a seamless MMO with everyone on the same server is gone (switch).

If the game had been built with instancing from the start, it would have saved years of work and millions of dollars. This is either fraudulent incompetence or outright fraud.

A new trench run mode is also coming to give purpose to the 267 ships already sold. This is reactive content insertion and not a planned design. Many of the ships they sell do not have a purpose or see much use.

I hope a journalist goes in deep on them I really do. There must be a ton of former developers willing to go on record.

Maybe there isn't (and never was) a ton of developers and that's been the trick all along.
