I'll investigate taking it apart and cleaning it. I'm reluctant to do more as a) I'm awful with electronics and b) they're kind of a collector's item now.

FFB is awesome IMHO. IIRC the best game for demonstrating it was Starlancer. It just adds a little something to the gaming experience. I quite like it when I unexpected hit something in one of the X3 games and the stick suddenly lurches to one side.

This looks like a source of good information for repairs, and modifications. If you're overly nervous about breaking out a soldering iron, then have a word with Margon, he does a lot of construction, mods and alterations for our resident keyboard community; I'm sure a joystick wouldn't be too much of a stretch for him...

    Organisation it is then!

Do we have to come up with a mission statement?

Alrighty then. We are an Organisation, which means we are not tied (by lore) to any particular method or style of play. We don't have an in-game image to live up to, which means anything goes!

Naturally, we're most likely to want to get our hands stuck in all of the pies. So, moving forward with infrastructure, I'd like to suggest the following:

Supreme Leadership - 3 members, voted by the community (perhaps this should be the next vote?)
Section Leaders - 1 per section, heading up each 'area' of activity. Put in place by the supreme leaders by agreement.

    Sections:
    - Mercantile (Trading & Logsitics)
    - Operations (Military & Bounty Hunting)
    - Fleet
    - Black Ops (Piracy & Espionage)
    - Resources (Mining, Salvage & Manufacturing)
    - Exploration

BitSec also have leisure and entertainment activity that doesn't fit the formal structure. Racing is a big part of this, populated by the 350R and M50 series vessels. All pilots are welcome to try their hand and take their birds for a spin.

Now, obviously some of these sections require more organisation than others. I can see the Military wing working a lot of the time as escorts for the Merchants, but also that the military setup is going to need things like Flight Leaders, regular flight teams for 2+ seater ships and Squadron Leaders for there-and-then strategy. Again, I think we work these out as we go, but aim for a varying level of 'rank' denoting the roles people want to take on and to reflect their experience. Initially we're all going to know nothing, so there's going to be a learning curve.

I would envisage the Supreme Leaders being the ones responsible for group funds and projects - particularly any bases we can acquire (if that is in the game) and even more so for capital ships. I definitely think we need a mobile base of operations ASAP, which from looking at the ships currently known, means an escort carrier at the top end with a few larger escort vessels. Now, ideally, I reckon they should be owned by BitSec, not individuals, but that's dependant upon the game mechanics.

I made us an organisation post. Please add comments etc. We will also need a logo and all that snazzy stuff. Any designers around?

Finally, I'd point out we have 17 members currently. We're not huge ;) We may need alliances with other groups.

I'm also wondering how it's going to be possible to actually keep track of everything in a single thread...

either more threads, linked to from this one maybe?

I'll happily stick up a small wiki/forum on a vps/domain and hand the admin details to whoever we elect in charge, though it'll be a few days before i could get it done.

I doubt BT will let us have a subforum...

An external forum might be useful, but I guess hold off on that until we decide we need one!

Not going to be a problem lads, once the organisation infrastructure is running on RSIs site, we get our own subforum there.

    From here

Here are a few of the features that will be included with future releases:

Organization Forums – Every organization will have its own, private forum through the RSI site!
Org Blog – Featuring a shoutbox and the ability to post news updates. Keep your organization informed with your own Comm-Link.
Visual Chart – An interactive display showing all of your organization’s divisions, jobs and members.
Fleet View – See your group’s ships!
Calendar – Set up squadron meetings, big events and more.
Voting – Make your group decisions based on your team’s consensus.

Maybe we could add separated forum section for Star Citizen?
Like sub-forum for servers we have now?

phinx, Parge just reminded us that we'll be getting our own private forum on the RSI site once the system goes active, which solves that problem. Guess we just have to keep ticking over until then.

In terms of progression, can we get nominations for Supreme Leaders? We'll then open a vote of the nominations.

I don't go for gaming attire, so I skipped on the tshirts. I do however have three patches here (2x UEE and 1x Navy), and am awaiting the subscriber-exclusive Aegis mousepad which looks amazing.

I'm happy with Organisation as our general classifier, it matches pretty well with our plans to branch out into everything.
Looking at the vote numbers, it looks like we possibly have 3 stealthy players who haven't revealed themselves?

Cei's post on the structure sounds like a good plan too.
I made a slight tweak to the section list (hope you don't mind):

    - Mercantile (Trading & Logistics)
    - Operations (Military, Bounty Hunting)
    - Black Ops (Piracy & Espionage)
    - Resources (Mining, Salvage & Manufacturing)
    - Exploration

For the nominations, did you want everyone to nominate three people or just one nomination each?

So split Exploration out from Resources, and add manufacturing to Resources? Sounds reasonable, depending on player numbers I guess. I've also added Fleet, so we have a named person who is responsible for our capital ships on a tactical basis.

For nominations, I thought it would make sense to get one name each to add to a list. Once we've got a list, everybody then gets to vote? (Giving 3 names then turns in to an almost voting system which doesn't quite work?) We'll then get to asking everybody who is in the fleet to say whether they're interested in a section leader role, and if so which.

    My nomination is Parge

List of Nominations for Supreme Leaders:
    - Cei [Nominated by Pete J]
    - DLDeadbolt [Nominated by suenstar]
    - Parge [Nominated by Cei]

Post Reserved for make up of the following sections:

    - Operations (Military & Bounty Hunting)
    - Fleet
    - Black Ops (Piracy & Espionage)

The combat focused side of BitSec is the responsibility of <Named Supreme Leader>, acting in their position of Commander in Chief. Under them sit the section heads:
    - Admiral of the Fleet, <named Section Leader, Fleet>
    - Chief of Staff, <named Section Leader, Operations>
    - Director of Intelligence & Security, <named Section Leader, Black Ops>

Combat operations at the fleet level are directed by the Admiral and the ship captains, concerned with vessels at the size of an Idris corvette or above. Each vessel requires multiple crew, which may be a mix of NPC and player characters. The fleet flagship is currently the <Class Name> <Ship Name>. In the absence of the AotF, a Rear Admiral will take command of any multi-ship fleets.

    Fleet Rank List
    Admiral of the Fleet
    Rear Admiral
    Captain
    Lieutenant
    Ensign
    Crew

    Fleet List
    No capital ships at present

Operations with smaller vessels, up to the size of Constellation class, are controlled by the Chief of Staff acting in conjunction with Squadron Leaders, Flight Leaders and the tactical wingpairs. In large engagements, one of the Squadron Leaders will step up to the Wing Commander level, acting as the on-site decision maker.

    Operations Rank List
    Chief of Staff
    Wing Commander
    Squadron Leader
    Flight Leader
Pilot / Gunner / Technician (Electronic Warfare backseat)
    Cadet

NB: Standard operation is in wingpairs, a duo of matched fighters (ie: 2x Hornet, 2x 300i series). Flights are two wingpairs operating together, and a squadron is any combination of 2+ flights. Watch your wingman's back at all times. Squadrons may also be joined by individual specialist craft, such as the F7C-R Hornet Tracker or Constellation command vessels.

Bombing or anti-capital ship missions will run on a case by case basis. Retaliator strategic bombers usually operate as lone wolves, but Gladiators operate as standard wingpairs under conventional squadron management. Mixed squadrons may exist to provide cover for the bombers.

To date we can field 8 Avengers simultaneously. Or, for a mixed run, 6 Hornets (3 S, 3 M) accompanied by 4 Avengers, 2 325As and a Constellation. Sweet!

Black Ops are a more irregular affair, run by the Director of Intelligence & Security. These operations can be legit intelligence efforts under UEE contract, or off the radar piracy operations with plausible deniability.

    Operations Rank List
    Classified

NB: The F7C-S Hornet Ghost will probably play a dual role between the Operations sections and Black Ops. I believe we have four of them currently. Fast vessels, such as the M50 and 350R can be used for courier duty.

I'd also note that the titles don't mean much, my intention is to simply have them as an indicator of the role that people are willing to take on (ie: some people may not like to lead) and their experience. I'm certainly not suggesting a ridiculously over complicated military system with saluting and all that BS. Communication at all times, from all directions.
