I preffer the SGC gate, no doubt about that, its just making that is gonna be amazingly difficult, but then again with all the fibre optics the atlantis one isnt gonna be easy lol

I like mitchell, give him some time, at least he still has a sense of humour! (btw, 214 of atlantis, if u havent seen it and your watching season2, download it, god download it, something i think every person who watches stargate finally happens)

OK back to the mod, an SGC gate is prefferable I agree, now anyone got any ideas how i would make that?

ah already thought of that, its gonna be a toggle switch with one of those red flick covers, always wanted one and its kinda military and one less thing to make, the DHD could be done though, and it could be alot easier than the rest of it, i'll bare it in mind

I had a though on how you could make the Atlantis gate with all the glowy bits quite cheap, without having to resort to fibre optics and the like :-D

For the Chevron 'track' cut a circular piece of perspex/acrylic/whatever and 'frost' the front surface.......over the top of that build up the track with balsa or basswood and simple drill small holes (1 or 2mm) into the wood and cut out the adjoining lines (see below) and then light from behind (either LED's or CCFL)

For all the other details you simply 'draw' them in using a ballpoint pen before you paint.....simple :)

Y'know, I am sooooo tempted to have a go at this myself now. LOL.....but wouldn't want to steal your idea before you've even started dude :)

And in regard to 2x14.....yes, yes it does.....god bless the writers....LOL

yes see now that i like the sound of, just as effective!! due to the size i reckon i could get away with 2m holes.

If anyone can find a good pic of the gate that i blow up and print out as a template show me :D

I was thinking, the gate is gonna have the cross section like and areoplane wing isnt it, u know the shape i mean, how do u reckon i can get that shape, i would say hand sanding but it wouldnt be a uniform shape all the way round.

EDIT: Hmmm looking at the pic more closely, its not a gradient at all its layered, that could make it a bit easier!!not its just 3 rings or different sizes and thickness's, hmmms
making those the chevron could be a bit of fun, i reckon perspex, dremeled into shape, then some painters tape to mask off the bits i dont wanna get painted

I have found a serious good image of the SGC gate, its a shame its to its side, but im going to contact the creator and ask for head on view!

    Here it is

You'll notice at the end of the URL that it has the resolution. Well change it to 1600x1200 and wack that on your desktop mofo! :p

On the downside, how in gods name am i gonna get all that detail, i really need a decent resin model of the gate, lol im gonna e-mail mgm.

yup :D I sure did, im just trying to work out how best to build it in wood and how the hell i can get the detail in it, are there companies out there than can do it for me?

As I have said i dont want this to be a "budget" looking mod, i'll do it myself if i have too but if it doesnt cost much to get it done really well It seems stupid not to?

Build the card model, build 1 lock then get a reproduction kit from halfords.
See how well you do then resort to C.N.C machining.
ive got a fan grill thats gunna have to be CNC'ed in aluminium.
BTW ive fudged up and lost the issue of SGM with the stargate in A3 size (2XA4).
try working on one bit at a time like the "lock" units 9 in total (8 and 9 are always hidden).
BTW ive got a pic of the SGA DHD.

Make an SG1 gate, but make it spin..

That would be awesome beyond belief..

    C.N.C Machining?

    reproduction kit?

I've got a pretty good 3d model, i linked to it earlier, that gives some good detail on the chevron (the lock)

8 and 9 are usually unlit but i will light them as well becuase it just will look silly.

The card model I will build, just to see what its like i guess., good layout guide though, still not sure about the construction of this though, i dont think i can have the address disc spinning really but I do think im going to make the gate up from layers.

Big question here, how do i cut perfect circles?
