I was reading this, why would they make these lightsabers http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=18681
Considering its power, I'm not surprised. Did you look at the video on the Wicked Lasers page? That thing is absolutely mad. Their safety blurb mentions; "(For a 1 watt laser, the beam can distract pilots up to 45 miles away.) Be EXTREMELY careful any time the beam goes into the sky or near a road." I want it, because it is a hell of an impressive device for $200..
Gotta love products like this that have ABSOLUTELY NO legal uses. Yes, it would be nice to try out one in a dark fores where there are no chances of blinding someone or taking down a plane, but I'd like to smack everyone in the face who even thinks of using one in a city.
I'm sorry but if you can't think of a use for a 1W laser in a legal sense then you need help. In the manufacturer's defence the article is the one that suggests using it for home defence. Lasers are, for the most part, boring.
Home defense? Do you want to burn down your house or just make the burglar blind? Neither of these options really count as "legal" or "viable" in my books. Where do I sign to meet the shrink?
Illegal? Probably soon if not already in most countrys. Pointless? Pretty much. Dangerous? Absolutely. Do I want one? HELL YES! Gimme!
My 5mW pointer is bright enough, can't imagine what that 1W one be like. Although it's a seriously dangerous piece of kit, you could easily blind someone by accident.
strap that to the underside of a rifle or shotgun so you can make sure the guy breaking into your house knows that he is targeted, even 2mi down the block!
Just..... why? What possible use could anyone have for something that powerful? Really? I really can't understand why they would make something like that for retail purposes.
..Look at how many of us want one, remember Wicked Lasers are a business (Who, incidentally, have claimed to offer the best selection of personal lasers), and you have their reason
