I agree with the above, I have only ever touched the case to ground myself before building all of my pc's in the ten years I've been building them and I've never had any issues with Static, apart from that time at band camp with the shellsuit lol Err no it isn't, what you're saying is absolute rubbish, you do not have to wear an anti-static wrist strap at all times (as a minimum) when handling computer components (see my post just above this quote) the word paranoid springs to mind! P.S) What's that behind you Aah, I didn't see this until after I'd posted, I'm not the only one who thinks you're being a bit too paranoid about this then tonpal That would be messy whether it be your mother or motherboard lol, oh and obviously I don't mean your mother as obviously that would be wrong, aah sod this forget it, it's late lol
well i build my computer down in my tool room so the concrete flooring and wooden table dont relle create static and for the naken computer building...as long as ur not out side or alone i dont see why modding in your birthday suit as a bad idea lets just hope no one wlks in...
I work with a LOT of electrical equipment, pcs and a lot more besides. Generally we don't bother. we have nyon carpet that gets incredibly charged over time. I remember only one time when i foolishly carried a card down the whole office floor and heard the crack of static against a capacitor. The card has not failed yet, its three years later, and it was a 7 -10 year old card to start with. Failiure of our electrical components is amazingly rare, and half the time the reason for that failiure is obvious and nothing to do with static handling...Its worth taking precautions, but those precautions should be obvious and not involve plugging yourself into a plug socket, which even if its only the earth pin is not a clever thing....
Few months ago an Australian wearing a synthetic jacket with a wool cashmere sweater under it made a walk on the hotel carpet, exiting his room. When he lifted his arm a stream of static electricity started a fire; apparently the effect was World of Warcraft like.
I've carried a whole bare PC, without a case or any protection, in a nylon bag a few times. Still running fine.
man...you..dressed....your bare mother...in nylon....and then...no protection! this thread needs censoring
