Basically im after a download service for films that operates similar to steam.
ie i buy a film and i can download it as many as times as i feel like, eliminating the worry of scratched discs.

Haven't had much luck finding anything thou, some news articles about how steam might be doing it in the future and links to sites like lovefilm.com which isn't what im after.

So anyone got any links they wanna share? :D

    Stay well clear.

In any modern country, this is an illegal download service, note that some of the files you can download are even of "CAM" quality. Check out Toy Story 3. I suspect at it's heart it's just another site charging for access to bittorrent.

It does look odd that they are offering movies for download now that are on pre-order at Amazon.com (the US one) with release dates in December.

dosnt surprise me at all, actually. You're asking an industry thats famously paranoid about piracy to let you copy a movie at will.

If this is your primary aim, considered ripping your DVD's or creating disk images?

To my great ongoing irritation, there's no way to do this for all DVDs without error (many new ones don't rip properly with DVD Decrypter, e.g. The Dark Knight) and it's technically illegal.

That's right, if you back up your DVDs to hard drive, you have to first break the encryption, and for doing that you could technically be lawsuited into oblivion. By a company you've paid money to.

It hasn't stopped me, of course, as I don't fancy carrying 300 DVDs around with me everywhere. But as I say, there are many that can't be decrypted (to my knowledge).

I've stated the very same thing, In the UK it's considered an archived copy and because you are not making any profit from the rip the companies haven't got a leg to stand on.

Either way good luck stopping me copying 600+ DVD's to my PC when I've got decent software, I need room for stuff. If they have an issue with that, they can buy me a new flat with extra space...

Bleeding hell this thread grew heh

This is what i currently do, it has its own problems thou.
If my hard drive decides to pack up then i have lost all images/copies in 1 go.
Cost of another hard drive, currently have a 1tb drive but having all them dvds on my pc would require a second drive.

It seems like there should be a service like this but there isn't
All sites i have seen are basically - buy it/download it and then they never wanna hear from you again unless its to buy another film.

Seems i might have to wait until steam decide if they are gonna add films to their list of services
