But a PC gamer already has a PC and can make their own. It is the console players they need to convince it is worth having. If they are console gamers the chances are they don't know about PC games.

Console gamers not knowing about PC games ? Novel idea but it couldn't be farther from the truth, console gamers know they can use a PC to play games, the question that needs answering is why they choose to play games on a console even though it's *inferior in hardware terms and the games are more expensive.

*in general terms, and not wanting to sound like a PC elitist

Totally agree. It should be a product that tempts console owners over to the PC market. All the flexibility and power of a PC, all the turn-on-and-play ease of use of a console.

Anyway, this is a steam machine:

Steam machines aren't for us. They are for for the people that buy ready built PCs despite the fact that making your own is cheaper. All the steam machine status does is say this WILL play games, because for years they bought machines with nVidia 5200 FXs that said:
The highlighted parts were often cherry picked for the overview sign that sat next to each machine.
Then they installed the latest game and it either wouldn't run or ran really badly.

How many have you interviewed? All the ones I know have never played an RTS MOBA or MMO and have never heard of Arma, X 3, etc.

Well i haven't sat down with any console gamers to elicit facts or statements in an interview, I'm not even sure someone would want to be interviewed over the subject of how much they know about gaming on a PC.

And since when has having to have played a RTS MOBA, MMO, or knowing about particular games been a prerequisite to know that PC games exist, that being your original statement.

While some console gamers maybe living under a rock most inhabit the same world as we do, they use the internet, they read magazines, they play games on mobile PCs (tablets or phones), they play games on that old under specced PC at work.
