Only reason I'd get a PS3 is GT5. Portal is decidedly a PC game, like pretty much all First Person games (at least the decent ones).
Steam store directly on the PS3? Now wouldn't that be something!
This is a bigger anti climax than the world cup!
Underwhelmed is the understatement of the year...
Does this mean we get to play PS3 gamers?
Well, I am overjoyed at this announcement. I will be playing Portal 2 on PC but having Steam on PS3 will be amazing. I do have to wonder whats in it for Sony though, will they get a cut of all profits from PS3 users? Also, PC games are generally cheaper than the console version so if you were to buy MW2 for pc via steam would you then be able to download the PS3 version for 'free', thereby saving money on the console version? If that is the case then I think it could either have a detrimental effect upon the pricing of PC games or have a very positive effect on the price of console games.
Also, the PS3 is more than capable of being of controlled with a keyboard and mouse, it just hasn't been implemented in many games. There is no reason why Valve couldn't port their games and include keyboard and mouse as a control method, in which case my PC probably won't get used for gaming anymore.
Nae, only chat to them
was this the reason Portal 2 got delayed?
I thought we were told PC gamers were in for a treat?!
You're getting ahead of yourself there. He only said steamWORKS, so likely the game will just connect to the steam servers, allow you to earn achievements on steam, see steam friends, use the cloud... But I really doubt Sony is going to allow steam store on the PS3.
That said, underwhelmed is indeed an understatement.
Meh, another sacrifice to the console god. Dumbed down HL3 anyone?
It's SteamWORKS, not Steam. Cloud saving, auto-updates - Not the Store.
Think about it - it'd just directly compete with PSN, fruitlessly and uselessly. There's very little actual crossover between PS3 games and PC games as available through Steam.
Hmm, slightly confused about the scope of SteamWORKS then. Will I be able to buy Portal for PS3 and then have it appear in my Steam library and vice versa? If not then I can't see the point in cloud saving and if that is the case then surely you would need the Steam client for delivery on the PS£?
I can see that Steam would compete with the PSN but if Sony get a cut then maybe it would be an overall win for them anyway?
What a load of ****.
Announce something we care about, for the ****ing love of God!
He just stop announcing crap until we he gets episode 3 done!
Or get Portal 2 out of the door quicker atleast.
They really are one of the slowest developers out there.
+1 - apart from the God bit (we all know God isn't real).
Surely it's a certainty that you'll still have to buy the game twice, so it's pretty redundant.
That's how it currently works with Steam games. Just Cause 2, for example, saves to the Cloud so that you can play on multiple PCs. The PC and Mac compatible games allow you to do that across both platforms. Take your Mac Book out with you, play a bit, save, go home, pick it up on PC from the same place.
I would think this means cross platform multiplayer (remember that Portal 2 has a coop campaign) which is kinda cool. I guess. I dunno, I was watching the Sony press conference and was all excited when Gabe came on because it meant seeing a portal 2 teaser but now that I think about it this is only good for Sony and not for me as a PC gamer. Oh well, it was either this surprise or nothing so whatever (it was obvious they weren't going to show any HL stuff, though CS2 would have been cool).
Separate names with a comma.
