Would it b possible to take a steel briefcase and put a computer in there then add a 19LCD monitor to it so you have a portable desktop PC!?

Or would the pc and the lcd not want to b buddies in 1 confined area?

Something like this with a LCD incorperated?

    Hi

Should be possible, 19" lcd will depend on the size of the case but it will be fine providing you have airflow over the back of the lcd and you shild the ac mains parts (if it has internal ac parts)

Infact that should be a very easy mod  might have to use low profile cards? depnds on the case once again

    Use a mac

this project would work best with a mac mini, the new 450 dollar ones. that frees extra space inside the bottom to put folding keyboard, trackball/mouse, ipod etc..

    'sif Mac.

Alot of LCD's these days have external power supplies, so they're easy to run off 12V DC etc. With a DC-DC PSU you could make the whole PC self contained, that would kick arse.

Thats an ac-dc power supply unit... not the 230v sticker on the back.
And, no matter what you do, your going to have to turn ac current from the wall into dc curretn for the rest of the appliances, wheter you make a breakout box (power brick) for the PSU, or cram it inside.

Just make sure to check the power requirements of the PSU if you are going to attach the lcd to it, make sure you have one that can run an lcd and other sutff. Dunno wha tthe lcd power requirments are, so dunno how hard its going to be

    Lordy, lordy, lordy...

OK. It is indeed very easy to build a PC into an aluminium case. 19" TFT in the lid? No problem. As long as the screen can breathe a bit through ventilation holes in the side of the lid or something, that'll be OK.

The best way to go about it is to buy a 19" TFT monitor (not a laptop screen, absolutely won't work, so don't even go there), and take out the insides. The accompanying powersupply can be built into the case. If it runs on 12V you could hook it up to the PC PSU, but it is likely that it will run on something like 20V in which case you need to use the supply that came with it.

@Joshone: Welcome to the forums! Hope you enjoy your stay. But you do not need a Mac Mini to keep things nice and small: you can use any mini-ITX PC setup to build a small but relatively capable PC and still have plenty of space for keyboard and mouse etc.

You can of course instead build the keyboard/mouse inside the case. A quite sturdy stainless steel keyboard + trackball combination has been designed for public access web terminals. They look very nice and you can find them for a decent price if you look around. Put one of those in your case and it will look very pimp indeed.

i wonder if you could get on a plane with that or will it raise hell and hear the sound of rubber gloves snapping on the hands of the Homeland Security agent before your "painful" ordeal...

Naa, it goes through the xray just fine. Just tell them it's a computer. As long as you don't have a stack of cd/dvd disks in there you'll be fine. The disks show up as a liquid on the xray machine.
