Thought I would share my newly found love for antique radios and my first restoration project. I didn't know if this would be allowed in the Project Logs section but if a mod thinks it could go there then by all means move it. The subject is a Stewart-Warner model 205AA AM tube radio from around 1942. Its in working condition, but it could use some polishing on the outside, and the inside has never been cleaned as far as I can tell. It looks like it spent 50 years in a barn though. I'll need to dismantle it, clean all the components, scrub the inside of the bakelite case, and then reassemble it and hope it works. I might also have to replace some aging capacitors. The decal on the front is fading, I don't know if I can fix that at all Some paint that should come off easy enough The back Messy insides The antenna is in bad shape The chassis removed Some fire-hazard wiring, it seems the concept of a perfboard hadn't popped into anyones heads yet. This weekend I will get to work removing tubes and cleaning them as they're caked with dust that won't wipe off easy.
Good luck. And don't die. I want to see this finished. Psuedo-Edit: How about mounting everything on perfboard for them?
I wouldn't this is how they where made point to point for many years. Plenty of valve amps still made are point to point. Saying that though most are neater than that one
Wow that looks amazing. I'm tempted to clean-up my old Hacker Radio now. I salvaged from my Great Grandma's house just because of the name!
