Truly epic build. This has to be the most special SNES in the world once this project is done On a sidenote, I'm still looking for that screw bit you used to open the cartridge. I have this dead SNES lying around which I just can't open due to the special screws it uses
thanks m8´s!!! @Elledan.....i will make a picture of the bit which we used to open the cartridges (it was a quiet normal screwdriver bit) As next, we continued the building process with the first cover plates, they were engraved with a custom Image which should show the game and also match the overall look of the console.... they still have to be polished....but you get an image of how it will look like.... As next we cut out the parts for the first gamepad and also a small part for the front of the console... beside that we transfered the position of all plugs and buttons of the backside to our metal shell and started to cut them out....
thx m8!!! Time for an update: As next we mounted the prepared metal shell on the Frame...so that we could mark the last openings for the gamepads....after that we took of the shell to transfer everything to a new fresh sheet of metal which will be used for the final version.... then we mounted the On/Off Switch on the Backside of the Console.... and we also continued the work on the Game Controller....
@Elledan it was this bit, which we used to open the screws.... as next.....we continued with some smaller parts....like a new custom Reset button.... it´s just made out of 3 small copper pieces...they are soldered together and then formed in shape ... then we took a small brass letter which was made for another project...it´s supposed to be attached on top of the embossed letter.... beside that we already printed a few goodies like this .... we also finished the work on the outside of the first 2 Game Cartridges....
absolutely fantastic project - makes me wonder why I gave my old SNES away 5 years ago!! I really like the replacement wooden cartridges and the engraved plates for each of the games - and the controllers - absolutely fab work! Do you have any plans on replacing the plastic controller connectors with wooden enclosures or to replace them entirely as they kind of stick out like a sore thumb against all the hard work you've done to the cartridges, console and the controllers?
@Elledan....it was one of those 50 bits plus bit holder boxes which you get from several manufacturers.....(like workzone etc) in the last days we´re finalizing it more and more.... so as next we made a few wood parts which will be used to connect the chimney with the rest of the case.... then we bended 2 brass stripes... as next we attached the chimney and made the necessary changes to the electronics so that we could power the small smoke generator inside the chimney with the normal snes psu... and last but not least we prepared two small light bulbs so that we can run them with normal LEDs and added them to the outer shell.... and here is a preview of it..... coming next....matching display.....
Always figured aluminium would look gorgeous with brass, copper & wood. Nicely polished aluminium as well, very nice. Incredibly awesome SNES case, steampunk style 2.0, it's a stunner.
