    Hi guys.

I'm having real trouble getting the heatsink to lock onto the latch on my AM3+ board. I have a Gigabyte 990XA-UD3 and an AMD Phenom II 955 BE which comes with the heatsink with copper feet. Utter pain in the t*ts! I've read brute force is needed, but AMD must be havin' a laugh here. I feel I'm gonna snap the PCB. :waah:

Post some Pics here..so we can help u... But ya, In general U have to use some force to put it. Just be sure to balance that out on the other side.

I had the same thing with my UD3. I really did think some thing was going to break, but it did go on with bit of force, way more than with any other AMD mobo that I had in the past.

What I ended up doing was having to hold one side down and the press down gently on the other side to get the clip any where near where it needed to be.

SonnyJim, if you think that mounting stock AMD heatsink is hard, then you should try to mount a Ninja 2 on it :). Definition of nightmare. The only coolers which can be mounted easily on AMD systems are the ones which get rid of the official AM2/AM3 mounting system and use their own.

Funny you should say that as mine was on for about 30 mins just for testing then I water cooled it.

Edit. I've just remembered some thing. Try undoing the screws on the mounting plate, not all the way off, it'll give you a bit of space to play with.

Well, the heatsink is installed. Without the help of Bulldogjeff, it wouldn't have been possible. You're advice has helped immensely. I have honoured you in the only way I know how. Named my friend's PC 'Bulldogjeff'.

Good night and good luck (whatever that means)

lol, remember when I first built mine- I took it into the shop where I baught it all from as they didn't beleive me that it wouldn't go on when I rang up-

The guy on the desk had a go, his face was all like WTF!?!?!?

Then a by stander had a quick go and just said duuude, thats gonna break if I do it anymore, then an engineer came out of the back of the shop (he was a little short and the pc was quite high up) did a sort of jump push and twist thing and it clipped on- Skills or what :p

Changed my heat sink now though- To one that likes to be attached :p
