    Hi all

Can anyone help please. I have a Philips Notebook X53 which has developed a fault. Basically on start up i get a Stop 0x0000007E error . I have tried to start up in all the safe modes but it makes no difference , it starts to run through the start up process and either hangs or restarts itself.

I have googled this , Microsoft advise going into the Bios settings and temporarily disabled the memory cache or shadowing. I attempted to do this, but the Bios settings do not show these options, i understand that these may be hidden, but i cannot find out how to get into these settings.

Can anyone offer any advise on how to resolve my issue please?

    Welcome!

In what stage particularly does it crash?

Also, try a Windows installation CD, if the problem is in hardware, it should BSOD in the setup, too. If it doesn't, it's propably a Windows issue.

Also, check the temperatures from BIOS.

When did this happen - did something prompt this failure (ie a sudden power cut whilst using the PC, or a crash during use etc.)?

It sounds like a corruption of either system files or windows file system to me. My inlaws had the same issue. I fixed theirs by removing their hard drive and putting it in my pc. On boot up into windows my PC saw the file system errors on their disk and fixed them.

If system files are corrupted then you can try the windows CD repair option. Or you may have a recovery CD that came with it being as it was a retail notebook.

Try sticking some new RAM in it.

Before you go and buy new ram first run memtest. Its a free tool that you burn to an iso disk and it will perform in depth memory tests. You use this not only to see if ram is working but also to pin point ram speeds that will work fail safe when over clocking.

    You can download memtest86 here:

I work on tech helpdesk for a living and I had this error message recently. It occured when a customer of ours installed some drivers for a cheepo video camera called Xelloxi, or something similiar. It managed to fix it by doing restoring the windows XP based machine to a system restore point previous to the drivers installation day. Why not give this a try?

Also, you might try starting it up in the "Last known good state". To get there, just choose it in the menu where you normally choose Safe mode.
