Are there any on-line stores that "cherry pick" the best stepping chips? I wouldn't mind trying one of the new stepping prescotts (when they come out) or one of the 30 cappers but don't fancy getting lumbered with an older one. I know that not all the chips from these batches will overclock like a beast but it would be nice to increase my chances of getting a really good overclock.
Check the reviews on the site or send an email to http://www.cpucitystore.co.uk for steppings. OR Post on the forums/email at http://www.overclockers.co.uk OR http://store.over-clock.com/Processors.html have a stepping stock list (a little link next to each processor, would email just to make sure its up to date!) Good luck
phat chance of getting overclocers.co.uk to pick a particular core for you, i'd try the other two awoken mentioned first.
Thanks Awoken, I'll check them out. Shepps: I'd heard that overclockers weren't catering for overclockers aymore which is a pity because their prices were quite reasonable.
Overclockers.co.uk used to let people choose a stepping, back in the days of the classic overclocking chips like the 1Ghz 'AXIA Y', 'AHJHAR' 1.4 Tirds and so forth... Since then they haven't really done anything, they had some special stepping Northwoods on sale at one time, but the times when they've had specific steppings to order have been few and far between for the past 3 years I think PCLincs used to let you pick your stepping when you bought from them, but they've gone bust it seems
don't forget www.overclock.co.uk They were stocking IQYHA0408RPMW mobile bartons last time I checked, both me and Kammy have had them up around 2750MHz on water/air respectively (it seems to be their limit on above ambient cooling, I'll test it at subzero temps as soon as I get the chance... busy times atm). I'm sure they would be more than helpful if you sent them an email asking about their Intel steppings too.
how could you forget me? just ask around, worst they can say is "no sorry". chances are some places will be willing to help
