6800 standard, or LE, providing your ok with unlocking and overclocking it a bit. Its all very simple to do and theres a softmod (pipe unlocking) how to guide on here, then overclocking can be as simple as hitting the auto detect button in the drivers, if your not fully confident with manually experimentation.

i dont mind unlcoking / overclocking, so which card to get then :D

am i right in saying the LE unlocks to a straight 6800 ?

or do they both have the same pipelines?

I didn't have much luck with a 6800XT, so maybe stay clear of them, unless mine turns out to be an exception.

(I'm still holding out hope that watercooling will help a lot...)

the 6800LE should unlock to have either 12 or 16 pixel pipelines, and 5 or 6 vertex shaders depending on whether any of them are damaged. My 6800LE unlocked to 16 pixel pipelines and 5 vertex shaders, for referance a 6800GT/Ultra has 16 pixel pipelines and 6 vertex shaders, and its not uncommon for a 6800 or 6800LE to unlock to the full 16x6 configuration.

Whether you use a 6800LE or a standard 6800 seems to make little difference to the end result both in terms of unlocking success and overclocking success. Therefore its logical to go for the LE as its cheaper.

Im not sure on what the 6800XT is to be honest in terms of core/pipe config, so am probs not in the best position to comment on them.

tho, to be honest, I probably wouldn't have heard of it if I didn't have one, I recon I should have put a bit more effort into looking around...

6800GT AGPs are hard to find now :(, NewEgg removed some of the good ones, which made me buy a 6600GT.

Yeah the prices for AGP 6800GT's on ebay are getting silly! Theres a XFX one on at £245 with still 6 hours left. The others with alot longer left are £180+

Crazy when you think i paid £155 for my retail PCI-E XFX 6800GT.

Better, but avoid all the same.
    Go for a 6800LE instead.

I grabbed a 6800LE a while back for £80 and managed to get all of the pixel and one vertex shader unlocked. The memory also seems to clock very nicely! I definately recommend it :D

Only the GTO2 is guaranteed to unlock all sixteen pixel pipelines.
