    Like the title says, I'm losing screen real estate to a creeping grey doom and it's doing my head in. For some reason I keep getting blank space appearing above the main toolbar when using Firefox:

    [IMG]

    The pic shows a single width but sometimes it expands significantly to take up as much space as my existing toolbars did. I've noticed this happening for a month or so but can't pin it down to any regular pattern, except that it never happens whilst I'm looking at the window. Opening a new window removes the problem but when I've got 8 tabs running having to migrate them across is a pain.

    Anyone have the foggiest what's causing this or how to fix it? 'Cause I sure don't :sigh:

    All I can think it may be is one of the Tab plugins, like Tab Catalog or Colorful tabs.

    I'll try getting rid of them then... disable or uninstall?

    I'd say uninstall, but you can try to disable them.

    I have had this problem before. This is due to one of your themes/skins. I can't remember which one it was thought...

    I don't think it's theme related as I have the same problem (you can see where I've been looking for help about this before) and the themes I have installed are the default, Noia, and Qute.

    I think it may have to do with resuming from hibernation on a laptop, but I'm not positive . . . in fact this page mentions that there's a known bug with the Google toolbar that causes this (listed under the first bullet in the Tips section). On the other hand, I can't find any information about this supposed issue, and I don't have the Google Toolbar installed . . .

    So, here's the bug in Bugzilla . According to comment 65 a workaround is to set mainPopupSet height to 0. You'll need to edit your userChrome.css to do this.

    Add the following:

    mainPopupSet { height:0 !important; }

    I think that's right . . . I could be wrong . . .
