I have a strange problem.Im looking at a friends pc as it had a problem which seems sorted now.But this pc for some strange reason wont turn on after turn the mains on from the plug socket. If you turn it of from the mains and its off for some time(about 15mins) when you turn the mains on and press the on button the pc does'nt start, if you leave it for a few minutes(around 3-5mins) then try again it goes to start but stops, press the button again same thing goes to start then stops.Leave it for a bit longer(another 3-5mins) then it starts up.But once it starts it goes straight into the bias settings, which are correct, date and time are fine, cpu settings are fine, save and exit then the pc shuts off.Turn it on again back to the bias settings, this keeps repeating. After a while save and exits works. Any ideas?? The battery is fine already checked.
Power supply borked? Check the HDD data & power plugs? In fact, check all the internal connections, if you haven't already. Try flashing the BIOS; updating that might help and can't hurt. (unless something goes wrong mid-flash, of course...)
Na battery is fine, ive tested it. Its a psu problem.PSU seems like its on its last legs.Connect a old psu too it and it booted straight away.
That sounds like one of the CD-Rom's or HD's is buggered to me - sounds like it's shorting the Power supply out somewhere (they have a thermal fuse which resets in about 5 minutes, all of mine do anyway). Try unplugging all the HD's and CD-ROM's and checking if it'll start up then. Otherwise i'd check the processor or northbridge isn't overheating.
Only reason most motherboards go to the BIOS straight off is if the Clear CMOS jumper is on the wrong pins... But yeah, dodgy PSUs cause some of the strangest symptoms I've ever seen - can throw you completely off-track where you think you've pinpointed and replaced every other component in the system, and then it turns out to have been the PSU after all, grr.
You said its working properly now right? If anything it almost has to be the PSU. However, if it was just something that happened over a few hours and then never came back, I would blame the power company. I have seen dirty "sub-par" power cause weird issues. You come back the next day and they are all gone. Are you waaaaay out in the country?
