    Last month for one of our school events we organized a computer game stall. I took my computer for that. we setup everything and switched on my computer to test it. I started playing FSX on it. After about 5 minutes it restarted. It was on a UPS and i thought that this is restarting because of the faulty UPS and removed it.

    Then i tried to switch it ON again. But it didnt work. So i removed the PSU and monitor power cable and used another pair. Then i switched it & it started working again. Then i started playing another game. But the same thing repeated itself. The computer restarted again. I tried many things but it kept restarting.
    These are some things i tried.

    1. I have 3 case fans. I thought it was a power issue and removed all the case fans.

    2. I checked if it was a Temperature problem and used HWmonitor to check the temps. They were OK.

    3. Then i set my BIOS to default because i thought that it might be caused because i accidently changes some OC settings in the BIOS.

    4. I restored my computer using system restore thinking that it was a software issue.

    But NONE of them worked!! I was able to keep my computer only for about 5 minutes without restarting.

    Then once i came home i removed all the parts and set it up on a table to test it. To my surprise the PSU and monitor power cables that i thought were faulty were working! nothing was wrong with them. And the biggest surprise was that the computer was working normal!! No problem at all.

    Now the computer is working fine. But i want to know what caused the problem and how to solve it if it repeats itself again.

    Sounds lie a power problem to me.

    It may sound silly... but was someone playing a joke on you? Keep switching the power on and off for a laugh?

    It could have been a faulty mains power lead, or even a plug socket at the school.

    +1 either a crap socket or someone dicking around with you.

    Throw the computer onto an extension lead, and use a table lamp on the same extension. IF the lamp goes out, then someone is dicking around.

    The funniest one i heard most recently and since have no hope for the human race was this one. Young lad calls to his mate and says lets swap around his keyboard and mouse connectors, so they pull'em and reconnect them back to the machine. They were both USB... fail!

    still strange that he lost power even when connected to a UPS..unless someone was crawling under the table and switching it off at the UPS :confused:

    Let me explain how we got power.

    We got a class to do our stall. Then they gave a connection with a 5Amp socket. Thereafter we used an extension and divided it among the following.
    *1 PS2
    *1 P4 computer
    * 1 P3 computer
    *1 CRT TV
    * My computer

    We had power issues on that day. Sometimes there was a power cut and then we got back power.

    And none of the other computers had this problem. They were working fine. So i dont think someone was targeting me for a prank.

    Im also begining to think that it was a power issue.

    Thx guys for the reply

    Yeah, it sounds like either someone was having a laugh, accidentally cutting the power, or more likely, the schools power supply is a bit flakey. I remember when I was at school, I'd try to perform sets on the theatre stage and depending on the humidity, some days my amps worked and other days they didn't. :)

    Only 5amps to power all of that, would need a 13amp supply. What was more than likely happening was an auto cut off in the power supply as there wasn't enough power coming down the line.
