Not sure whether anyone can offer any suggestions but here goes...

Friend in the UK uses Skype to talk to his son in the USA. The friend can see his son on the video screen but the son can't see him.

Friend and I can see each other perfectly.

Son in the USA can see his mates and vice versa

    Any ideas please

Sounds like the Son's PC is the problem, does he just get a blank screen? Have him update his video drivers and update skype, thats where I would start. Check the skype forums too, http://forum.skype.com/

If he just gets a blank screen, try downloading Splitcam and telling it to capture your camera, and then on Skype, you choose "splitcam" from the video input list. Routing the video through this often solves problems, at least with my Logitech cam.
