So I was watching tv the other day when Isaw this commercial for these werid soldering irons. Supposedly they are cool too the touch but when you touch anything metal, they heat up almost instantaiously, and cool just as fast when you remove them. The are called like "Cold Heat" or something. I was just wondering if anyone has seen them or used them and any feedback on them. It would be a great concept if it worked. I'd avoid burning myself and it is wireless so it would be less of a hassle, but I'm not quite sure if it would be a good 40$ spent or whatever it was.

I hear they're good also, and you can get em for $20 at Costco. But, I have had good experiences with my butane powered soldering iron. It's portable, heats up in a jiffy, gets plenty hot, and also has a useful blowtorch attachment. Here is the butane soldering iron I prefer, and here is the ColdHeat.

If you want to do electronic soldering, i wouldn't recommend them. There is no substitute for a good, simple, plug-in iron. A variable one if you can afford it.

    Yup - exactly.

They can only solder very small things, and even then they can't do that great of a job at it. I wouldn't reccomend it.

I have one of those ColdHeat soldering irons and I like it. Like nleahcim said, they can't reach really small places, so I have a backup iron. But I like the ColdHeat.
