my computer is running XP and everytime i shut the computer down it turns back on after about a half hour.

i did have it set to always on but I've since changed it to home setup. i also left it on overnight for a week or so (while it was assimilating my t*rr*nts that i was doing)

also, how can i get the computer to turn completely off when i shut down, it just does that "it is now safe to turn off your computer" crap

    i am a total n00b to XP, i have always used 98se.

The reason it says "It is now safe to turn off your computer" in short is because the powersupply or motherboared doesnt support advanced power mangagement.

which is wierd because it turning itself on implies the network is waking it.
    [Disable Wake-On-LAN) in the BIOS.]

Some do wake on ring too.. But I'm sure it would be obvious if your PC turns on when the phone rings.. :)

I always thought w-o-ring refered to the network! but that makes so much more sense...

My flatmate had a midget clown fetish, don't live with them anymore...

    Sorry, only partially read title...

Try another power supply, a friend of mine's computer used to just randomly boot up (WOL, WOM , WO-EVERYTHING-ELSE was turned off). Popping in an old power supply of mine sorted it out straight away, never did investigate it either.
