Student Houses Vs Halls I actually didnt get into halls this year (my first year) and I'm going to look at some houses on thursday, anyone got any tips on choosing one ?
If the Hall has a Janet connection .... take it down side to it .... ya gonna get alot of noice and odd sleep patterns, oh and ppl will tend to nick ya f00d !!! I suggest u get a house wiv 3-4 other ppl, #1 task, is to check if boardband is available in the house's area #2 the Landlord doesnt mind u installing it and installing a nice ikkle LAN too A house is much more cozy and u'll likely to get a bigger room \0/
oo yea forgot bout that, gotta make sure I can get DSL or wotever, lan shouldnt be to much of a problem cos its fairly semi-perm really
you forgot to find out which one will allow you to have the floors vibrating @ 2am to the sounds of counterstrike while blowing up people in france (another thing they get beaten at) that was catty i kno but i could no resist
Ok... Once you know everyone in college a house is better, living with mates is great fun and more than worth the cable over janet loss. Buuut first year I wouldn't go for a house with people I don't know... too much hassle r.
well thats the thing, I have absolutly no choice, because the halls are full, there arnt that many u see, so I HAVE to go into a house fairly worried about it actually :cries:
crappie... Ok most important thing with a student house is a nice sized kitchen and a good living room. Nice rooms are surprisingly unimportant IMO - they drive the price up and as long as things like stuffy kitchen areas don't make you fall out with your housemates and you have somewhere else to go (nice lounge) then you'll never be in it Obviously not too small rooms but hey Bathroom matters very little (who washes anyway?), just use tricks like setting you alarm clock at non round times (18mins past the hour etc.) and the bathroom willalways be free when you wake up 5 people per bathroom max though... more would be crampie. Personally I prefer cosy 3/4 person houses, any less is too expensive and any more feels too packed in Good luck matie, r.
If u can ...... try and find some house m8's who are girls #1 Girls tend to be clean freaks #2 Where theres one girl there are always many more (ahem Psychology students) #3 Would u prefer to see Knickers&Bras drying on the radiator or blokes pants!
even better are female photography students especially if they ask you to help them setup when there taking the "artistic" shots of ladies for there portfolio (my mate hasent stopped grinning & its been a couple of weeks since)
I've just finished. Does that make me the voice of experience? When i lived in halls (4 yrs ago!) my room was pretty pokey, but i had my own bathroom, so i was happy. I thought I was well going to be disappointed when moving into a house. It's a mixed bag. The first house i moved to there was three lads in a four bedroom house. Then one lad turned out to be a complete tosser, and it was just two of us for a while, which was really good. (You will get to know someone properly when you start sharing things like bills and household chores!). Then I moved into my house now, two yrs ago. When I moved in I didn't know anyone. We all got to be great mates though, and it all werks out nicely. So in summing up... Make sure you get a good landlord. If he sits on his ass while your house is falling apart, you're in trouble. Make sure the house is secure. Student houses are a magnet for scum sucking burglars. Get insurance! Before you part with any cash, make damn sure what you're responsable to pay for. I know a few people who actually have no problems with fleecing their 'mates'. As long as the kitchen looks basically clean and functional, it should be OK. A little known fact though, it's illegal to run fitted appliances off extension cords. My former landlord had us running all kitchen appliances off a multiplug. This is a big no-no! Same for the bathroom. Remember, clean and functional. Nothing fancy. And finally get Broadband! and get a Bbiiiiiiiigg TV!
Living with girls 'aint all it cracked up to be... -If you want a big tv they're unlikely to contribute, same with broadband, house server, mp3 player in the living room and nice comfy chairs. -All their cycles align, one week every single month your life will be a nightmare. -They do not clean. Anything. Most women are realllly messy, it's the truth. -You need a beer and you canne be bothered to take a trip to the offie... well you can't nick one off your girl housemate now can you? -Speaking of beer, you think there's going to be fridge space for beers in a woman house? You think they'll put money in to getting a second fridge just for beer? I doubt it. I lived with 4 girls in a 5 person house and I have to say I'd prefer to have been with blokes (one of them was an ex which didn't help , but I doubt that made much diff)... it was still a great year mind r.
p.s. after a couple of weeks of living with anyone they stop being attractive - ask any married man r.
Thats like when you start a new job you check out the girls, then a month later you think noway would I.
Halls are fun but after a year you will want to get out . Decent nights sleep are hard to find in some halls , but the partying are the best of your life I still remember one of our parties from the first in halls 100 odd of us in two adjacent flats 500 of punch . After 5hrs 3 people were in hospital with alcahol related injurys , we had two fire engines out side (some1 very drunk decided to fry a packet of chrisps still in the packet ) police had been past twice , oh and security we outside most of the night Then we decided we better go to the union in pyjama's Ah memories
isnt it more difficult to make friends if u DONT like in halls though ? just worried I'll end up living with a load of complete t!ts
