Ok, so I have this friend who thinks he's an absolute computer genius. So he tells me he's watercooled his computer, it has SLI, etc. I was pretty impressed, but a bit skeptical. However, I found out he was not lying. I went over to his house and BAM. Guess what I saw? One of these on his proc (and yes that is the R80, he used a 80 to 120mm adapter to fit it on his 120mm fan hole!): And one of these on EACH graphics card: I broke out laughing. Just too funny for words. To top it off, he started up his computer and I looked at the temps. The processor was running at 52C and the graphics were both at 55! Idle! Does anyone else find this funny? Getting down to my basic question. Once you have got SLI and such, and you want to water cool, or even if you don't have SLI but you want your proc and GFX to be water cooled, are these products in tandem a good solution? Or should you go for real water cooling? Thanks. Please tell me I'm not going crazy, and this is funny...
Before we all have a good laugh at the poor guy's expense, let's remember that we all had to start somewhere, and at least he went ahead and tried something rather than asking people on forums to design his watercooling setup for him... But frankly, there are air-cooled heatsinks that can do better. So he would be better off taking the plunge with "real" water cooling.
Yeah, I guess you do need a starting point. But seriously... Come on. That's just stupid. Oh, and I later found out that he put the stock coolers on with little or no thermal paste, so he thought his temps were ridiculously high (duh) and decided to water cool. I mean... seriously.
