i recently built a regular computer. no mods nothin. my first computer i built. when i turn on the computer everything starts, but the monitor doesnt show bios or anything i think it might be my motherboard but im not sure......suggestions please....ty ps. the vid card has a 3 pin conector that i aperantly dont have and i cant find where it goes it this the problem.
what graphics card?? have you tried a different card if you have one. try to get post with out the graphics card and see if you get any post beeps. Ben edit:: also try a different monitor to rule that out. do you get any beep codes with the card in.
sounds like the start of a poem Try reseating the card - make sure its all the way into the agp slot. Also check its fan is working (if it has one), or reset the CMOS.
geforce.....not sure what model anymore though......i dont get any beeps at all. it is seated corectly that was the first thing i checked....and the monitor is brand new.
that sounds like a fan connector to me. hmmmm no beeps.... have you checked to make sure that the processor is in correctly?? Pens on the cpu my be bent. did you take antistatic precautions??? is the power cable for the motherboard in all the way? (this has happen to me) And one last queston, is the heat sink fan plugged in???
thats all done.....made sure of all that. i possibly fried the mobo, well my friend might have, so hopefully when i get this one i just ordered it will work. but i was hoping to resolve this otherwise. but thanx atleast i know what to rule out.
No beeps at all means either dead mobo or speaker not connected. Most people neglect to plug in mobo speaker (though some motherboard makers are nice enough to include them on-board), which makes troubleshooting these issues much harder than they should be. So, either plug in a speaker and analyse the beeps, or if you have a speaker plugged in, RMA the thing (after checking that you did actually plug in all the proper cables ) With the connector on the vid card, old and/or cheap GF mx cards often use passive heatsinks on the reference card, which makes the fan connector redundant, so don't stress about it. Try and get some beeps out of that mobo!
Is the mobo actually working? As in, are any lights coming on on the board? (For example when you plug a cable into the network port?) If not, it'll either be a power problem or a broken board.
Risers man, risers. You can't forget to check the mobo risers, my friend had that problem lol but he was after he found out what he did wrong.
right things to check: - Are all the jumpers on the mobo on/on right? I made this fatal error when i built my first comp. - Are all the cables plugged in properly? I was always a little scared with my ham-fisted mits that i'd break everything, but it does have *some* leeway (not a lot, but some, so be careful!) - Is the power cable to the mobo actually producing power? Could be that, happened to me once - I dunno about other mobo companies, but the MSI ones normally have a handy "D" Bracket which plugs into the back. The combination of LED's being red and green tells you whats wrong, if you read the manual Hope everythings fine, and if your mate fried the board, give him a slap round the back of the head!
thanks for the help, i got to check the manual because both the red and the green are lit. i didnt think of that i thought they men that it was operational. thanks again and you bet you ass imma kick the crap out of him if he did.
just remember to look at the LED's face on. My computer was under a desk and so i was looking at it upside down and so i thought my problem was something completely different!! took me ages to click
Hey, you are recieving power to the mobo and the led on the mobo are on right? but when you push the power button nothing happens? If so then it is definately your risers. My friend had that exact problem (mentioned above) he even had an MSI mobo, cant rember what model though. You see, you cant have the mobo directly contacting the case at all, other than the mounting screws. Otherwise it creates a short and the PS recognizes this and will refuse to give more power than the standby. So just take the comp apart again (if you haven't already got it off of the case) and then re-mount it to the case, this time with the motherboard risers so that your mobo doesnt contact the side of the case/tray (whatever you attach your mobo to). -Sea Shadow
Not neccesarily. I got my MSI 67** to run sitting on side panel when i was building it to test it would work. Plus unless your there with him you can't say ne thing for definate really. Still could be a CMOS setting problem and he needs to reset it, or a couple of others.
well i should get my new mobo today so imma try this first, its the one i originaly wanted anyway. so hopefully it will work. if not i will be back here asking the same questions. but thanks for your help.
What graphic card u got? some ati cards need additional power. Need to plug in a power lead to the 3-pin power connector on the card
